Common 2013 Audi A4 problems

The 2013 A4 has been recalled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (
NHTSA
) four times for the following issues:
  • In October 2014, a recall was issued because of a malfunction in the airbag control module that prevented the front airbags from deploying in the event of a second impact if the side airbags had already deployed.
  • In January 2017, a recall was issued because coolant pumps in the car’s engine could overheat if they were blocked with debris from the cooling system, increasing the risk of a fire.
  • In October 2017, a recall was issued because corroded wires in the car’s auxiliary heater could overheat and melt
  • In April 2018, a recall was issued again for the issue of coolant pumps overheating. Additionally, the cooling system could short circuit after contact with moisture from the coolant pump.
In addition to the recalls, a problem with the car’s fuel intake system can cause carbon buildup in the engine, leading to decreased power and fuel efficiency. Most car engines are cleaned by gasoline flowing through the intake system and injectors. With Audi’s direct injection system, gasoline doesn’t flow through parts of the engine that are prone to carbon buildup.

Is the 2013 Audi A4 reliable?

No car functions perfectly forever. They’re complicated machines, and their engines and components weather much abuse, even when properly maintained. Despite the issues mentioned above, reviews paint the 2013 A4 as a reasonably reliable car:
J.D. Power ranked it second in that year’s “Compact Premium Car” category, tied with the
Acura TL
and
Infinity G37
. It also scored the car an 87/100 for quality and reliability, which it considers a great score.
RepairPal gave the car an above-average 3.5/5 reliability score, ranking it right in the middle of its competitors, and estimated an annual
car repair
cost of about $800, which is average for cars in its class.
