2011 BMW Z4 0-60 Time

If you’re looking to buy a two-seat European roadster, then you probably expect it to be fast—the 5.6-second 0-60 time for the 2011 BMW Z4 delivers in spades.
Most cars try to appeal to buyers with a certain degree of practicality—lots of trunk space or third-row seating for the kids—but some are just plain fun. The 2011 BMW Z4 fits into the latter category. It’s a high-performance, two-seat convertible that might not be the most pragmatic car in the world, but boy is it fun when you get it out on the highway.
If you want to know about some of the Z4’s performance specs, as well as how it measures up to the competition, then you’ve come to the right place.

2011 BMW Z4 0-60 time

The measured 0-60 time for the 2011 Z4 is around 5.6 seconds. It can pass the quarter-mile mark in about 14.4 seconds and typically hits 100 mph in the same timeframe.

Which BMW Z4 engine is the fastest?

It’s typical for a high-performance sports car to have multiple engine options to choose from, and the Z4 is no exception.
There are three available engines for the 2011 Z4: a 3.0L inline-six, a twin-turbocharged 3.0L inline-six, and another twin-turbocharged 3.0L inline-six with increased performance. Their 0-60 times are as follows:
  • Base 3.0L engine: 5.6 seconds
  • Twin-turbocharged 3.0L engine: 5.2 seconds
  • Upgraded twin-turbocharged 3.0L engine: 4.7 seconds
As you can see, if you want the absolute fastest Z4 possible, you’ll have to shell out a few extra bucks for that top-shelf engine.

Can it beat the competition?

For a spunky little car like the Z4, a 5.6 second 0-60 time is pretty good. However, the Z4 is in an extremely competitive corner of the auto market, and it (literally) can’t quite keep up with the competition.
Here are the 0-60 times for some of the Z4’s main rivals in the luxury coupe/roadster category:
Looking at this table, it’s painfully apparent that the Z4 gets left in the dust by the competition. Even with the fastest available engine, it takes the Z4 4.7 seconds to hit 60 mph, which is still almost an entire second behind the i8—the other slowest car in the lineup.
That’s not to say that the Z4 has no appeal (far from it). The other cars in this list are extremely fine-tuned, high-performance machines, and as a result, are liable to be extremely expensive.
A 2011 Porsche 911, for example, can cost $100,000 or more used, while secondhand Z4’s from that same year can usually be purchased for between $25,000 and $40,000.
If speed isn’t your primary concern, but you want a fun two-seater that can drop the top on a nice sunny day, the BMW Z4 might be your answer.
