For a spunky little car like the Z4, a 5.6 second 0-60 time is pretty good. However, the Z4 is in an extremely competitive corner of the auto market, and it (literally) can’t quite keep up with the competition.
Here are the 0-60 times for some of the Z4’s main rivals in the luxury coupe/roadster category:
- Porsche 911 Turbo: 2.7 seconds
- Mercedes AMG GT: 3.7 seconds
- Audi R8: 3.8 seconds
- BMW i8: 4.1 seconds
- Chevy Corvette Z06: 2.6 seconds
- Nissan GT-R NISMO: 2.9 seconds
Looking at this table, it’s painfully apparent that the Z4 gets left in the dust by the competition. Even with the fastest available engine, it takes the Z4 4.7 seconds to hit 60 mph, which is still almost an entire second behind the i8—the other slowest car in the lineup.
That’s not to say that the Z4 has no appeal (far from it). The other cars in this list are extremely fine-tuned, high-performance machines, and as a result, are liable to be extremely expensive.
A 2011 Porsche 911, for example, can cost $100,000 or more used, while secondhand Z4’s from that same year can usually be purchased for between $25,000 and $40,000.
