Why your 2010 Honda Insight needs a radio code

Although much more prominent back in the day, radios remain one of the most commonly stolen items from vehicles. Radio codes are a fairly simple concept—if the radio is removed from its source of power, a code will lock you out, effectively making the radio worthless.
This deterrent was designed to prevent thieves from attempting to steal radios in the first place.
Despite being implemented as a protection for the driver,
Honda
radio codes can be a pain for drivers who were never aware that they existed. If you find yourself puzzled by the “CODE” warning popping up on your radio, we know all the places you’ll need to look for it.

How to find your 2010 Honda Insight radio code

Once you know where to look, retrieving your Insight’s radio code is a fairly easy process. In most cases, though, you can avoid needing a code by pressing and holding the radio’s power button for two seconds, causing the radio to reset.
If this doesn’t work for some reason, open up your glove box and look for the “Anti-Theft Radio Code Number” sticker. This sticker will also have the radio’s serial number on it, but you should be looking for the five-digit code first. If you can’t seem to find this sticker, flip through your owner’s manual, where the radio code should be listed.

How to look up a 2010 Honda Insight radio code

Maybe your radio code sticker has been peeled off, and you have no idea where your owner’s manual went. If this is the case, you can use a combination of your
Honda's vehicle identification number (VIN)
and radio serial number to access your radio code. These numbers will be nearly impossible to memorize, so be sure to write them down.
Your VIN will be a whopping 17 digits and can be found on the driver’s side of the windshield, on your registration documents, or on your insurance card.
To retrieve your radio’s serial number, press and hold the one and six radio preset buttons down while turning your key to the “on” position. This will turn your car’s electricity on, without starting the engine. If done correctly, a 10-digit number will pop up on the radio display—this is your serial number.
After you have both of those numbers, you can finally obtain the most important number: the 2010 Honda Insight radio code. You can access your radio code in the following ways:
  • Call 1-800-999-1009
  • Enter the numbers in Honda’s
    code retrieval tool
  • Bring your Insight to a Honda service center
