The 2010 Audi Q5 has been involved in four recalls. The most serious of these involved air bag inflators rupturing in the event of a collision and two faulty components that caused fuel leaks. These recalls affected over 750,000 vehicles, though not all were Audis.
Despite these and a few other issues, the 2010 Q5 remains a great luxury SUV with solid safety and reliability scores. Here’s a breakdown of the Q5’s common issues from

Common 2010 Audi Q5 problems

Of the relatively few problems commonly reported about the 2010 Q5, the most serious involved its driver’s side airbag inflator. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (
NHTSA
), “In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could explode with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants, potentially resulting in serious injury or death.”
Two recalls were issued because of this problem: One in February 2016 and another in January 2018. Certain
Audi S5
,
A5
, and
Volkswagen Passat
models were also affected.
Another recall was issued in September 2016 because some models’
fuel cap
flanges cracked, leading to fuel leaks. This repair for this issue was to apply butyl tape to the fuel flange, which led to a final recall in November 2018 when fuel leaks were detected despite the tape.
Finally, carbon buildup was found in the engines of models made from 2009 to 2016 because of their fuel injection system, leading to decreased power and fuel economy.

Is the 2010 Audi Q5 reliable?

Aside from these issues, most of which have been resolved, the 2010 Q5 had generally positive reliability scores: 3 out of 5 from RepairPal and 81/100 from J. D. Power
It was also one of Edmunds’s best luxury SUVs for the year. In a comparison of compact luxury SUVs, Car and Driver ranked the 2010 Q5 first above similar cars like the
Lexus RX 350
and
BMW X3
. It had this to say:
“Audi has delivered where it counts, though: quick acceleration, top-level comfort in the back seat, class-leading grip as measured on the skidpad, better-than-average fuel-economy ratings, respectable cargo space, and, of course, an interior so classy you might delay your arrival for just one more trip around the block.”
It has an average annual repair cost of $778, which is more or less par for the course when considering luxury vehicles and pricey
