You can find the code that unlocks your 2006 Acura TL’s sound system in your glove box, in the owner’s manual, or by looking it up online.
  • The radio code is an anti-theft device to deter thieves from stealing your stereo.
  • Your Acura’s radio will lock anytime the battery is disconnected.
  • To find your code, look in your glove box or owner’s manual.
  • You can also call Acura with the VIN and radio serial number to get the code.

Why do I need a 2006 Acura TL radio code?

Your sound system locks whenever your battery dies or is replaced. Since car radios are one of the most commonly stolen car parts, this is an anti-theft measure meant to deter people from taking your sound system.
On the one hand, the need for a radio code is a good defense mechanism, especially if you don't have
comprehensive insurance
. That said, it can be a huge inconvenience if your car isn’t actually being stolen!

How to find your 2006 Acura TL radio code

Glove box: Your anti-theft radio code should be on a sticker decal on the wall of your glove box. If you can’t find it there, check the underside of the engine compartment’s fuse box cover.
Owner’s manual: You may also have an Anti-Theft Identification Card in the owner’s manual. This card will have your radio code on top and your radio’s serial number on the bottom.

How to look up your Acura radio code

If you can’t find the sticker decal or your Anti-Theft Identification Card, don’t panic! You can look up your 2006 Acura TL’s navigation code online or over the phone with a few pieces of information: your
vehicle identification number (VIN)
and your radio’s serial number.
VIN: Finding your VIN number is easy. Just look at your registration, insurance card, door jamb, or the bottom of your windshield on the driver’s side to find your 17-digit VIN.
Radio serial number (8 digit code): To find the serial number for your 2006 Acura TL’s sound system, your first step is to turn on your radio and confirm that the display says “code.” If you don’t get this message, pull the backup fuse for one minute and try again.
Next, turn your radio off and press the radio preset buttons 1 and 6 simultaneously. Hold for a few seconds and turn your radio back on.
Look at the navigation system screen. The first radio display screen will display a “U” followed by the first four digits of your device serial number (ex. U1234). The second screen will display an “L” followed by the last four digits of your serial number (ex. L5678).
Ignore the “U” and “L” and write down all eight digits together (ex. 12345678).
Now, you can use Acura’s
online tool
to look up your radio security code. You can also call this phone number: (800) 382-2238, Monday through Friday, 8am to 6pm, or visit a dealership to get the unlock codes from an Acura dealer.
FYI, this process is similar for the Acura TSX, Acura MDX, RDX, TLX, and Integra—and for other Honda cars, too (because Honda owns Acura!).
