The 2005 Ford Thunderbird 50th Anniversary Cashmere Special Edition was very similar to the regular 50th-anniversary versions of the Ford Thunderbird, albeit with a few special features separating it from that edition.

What is the Ford Thunderbird Cashmere Special Edition?

There were only 1,500 Ford Thunderbird Cashmere Special Editions produced in 2005 for the vehicle’s 50th anniversary. Due to its rarity, there are not many on the market to purchase. But we can safely provide estimates that the Cashmere version of this Special Edition will go for around $20,000, give or take. Like we said, they rarely go on the market, so we can only estimate based on the information we have.
The 2005 Ford Thunderbird 50th Anniversary Cashmere Special Edition has everything the regular Ford Thunderbird 50th Anniversary Edition contains, except the addition of a few Cashmere features, like a hardtop and front grille.

2005 Ford Thunderbird 50th Anniversary overview

Before we examine the Cashmere Special Edition, let’s take a look at the 2005 Ford Thunderbird 50th Anniversary.
Like we mentioned above, all of the 2005 Thunderbirds were branded with special 50th Anniversary badging to celebrate the vehicle’s 50 years on the road.
There was really no competition with the Thunderbird, as it was a new design in and of itself. Those who sought to purchase it did so out of a love of the vehicle, with an eye on the redesign that ushered in the years leading up to this celebration.
With that said, the car was still well-received. It had silky-smooth handling and a peppy V8 that hearkened back to the earlier days of the car. It was fun to drive and most definitely was fun to be seen in, as these new designs were a far cry from what Ford had produced to date. The only knock was the limited trunk space. You couldn’t fit more than a set or two of golf clubs, but we don’t expect you would buy it for cargo room.
Excitement was at an all-time high with this vehicle, and the combined fuel economy of 21 mpg did little to sway people from buying them as soon as they hit the lots.
Key specs
  • $12,944 KBB Fair Market Value
  • 3.9-liter V8 engine
  • 280 hp @ 6000 RPM
  • 286 lb-ft of torque @ 4000 RPM
  • NHTSA 4.5/5 stars frontal crash test rating

What’s special about the Special Edition?

It’s all about Cashmere. The 2005 Ford Thunderbird 50th Anniversary Cashmere Special Edition had a special mounted glove box, with a numbered commemorative plaque letting buyers know which number they purchased.
At the front of the car is a distinctive Cashmere color-matched grille that hangs above bright driving lights. The Cashmere hardtop drops down and is meant to invoke the car’s original dual-roof system—a neat little callback to fans of the first version.
The interior of the car is almost the same as the original but, again, the Cashmere pops up with Cashmere-covered seats that accent the ‘Light Stone’ or ‘Dark Stone’ interior panels.
If you were buying the Cashmere version of the 50th Anniversary vehicle, you were buying for exclusivity, and no amount of persuasion will deter you from doing that, but it’s worth looking at another trim level just to see the difference.

2005 Ford Thunderbird 50th Anniversary Cashmere Special Edition vs. Deluxe

The Cashmere edition was the top of the line when it came to the 50th Anniversary Special Edition. But what about the lower trim levels? What did they offer? Let’s take a look at the Deluxe model.
The Deluxe trim included:
  • Rear-wheel drive
  • 17’’ painted aluminum wheels
  • 3.9-liter V8 engine
  • Front air-conditioning
  • Power convertible top
  • Remote keyless entry
The differences between the Deluxe and 50th Anniversary editions are not insignificant. But you’re getting a base model in every definition of the word, not to mention that you won’t get 50th anniversary badging or Cashmere highlights.
For us, this is one of those vehicles you are buying because of its rarity—not because you like how it drives or the sound the engine makes. Ford built 1,500 of these for a reason, and they sold out in record time. Due to scarcity, the appeal is there for car buyers and collectors to track this one down. You will pay more, but we believe it to be worth it.
