Why your 2001 Acura TL needs a radio code

Your 2001 Acura TL radio code is a 5-digit number meant to act as a deterrent to car thieves. And it’s little wonder, considering car radios are one of the most-stolen objects during vehicle thefts.
When your radio gets disconnected from its power source, it requires you to enter your radio code to be able to use your stereo system again. Unfortunately, this protective measure can become more of a nuisance if your car battery dies or gets replaced.

How to find your 2001 Acura TL radio code

Getting your Acura TL radio code is pretty easy, luckily—you just need to know where to look to find it.
With the 2001 Acura TL, you can start by checking your glove compartment. There, you might be able to find a sticker with your radio code and serial number on the inside of your glove compartment, attached to your owner’s manual, or on an anti-theft identification card. You might also find it attached to your fuse box cover.

How to look up a 2001 Acura TL radio code

No luck finding your Acura radio code? That’s ok—there’s another way you can find it. You’ll need to track down two numbers: your
Acura vehicle identification number (VIN)
and your radio serial number.
You can find your 17-digit VIN in several different places, like on your dashboard, driver’s side door jamb,
vehicle registration documents
, or
proof of insurance card
For 2001 and newer Acura models, there is a way to retrieve your radio serial number using the radio display if you can’t find it anywhere else. Just hold down buttons 1 and 6 on the radio, and at the same time, move the ignition to the “on” position.
The display screen should show a “U” followed by the first four digits of the serial number. Then, it should display an “L” with the last four digits of the serial number. Put them all together (ignoring the U and L), and you’ll have your 8-digit radio serial number!
For example, you might see the first display read “U2002” and the second read “L9823.” That would make your radio serial number 20029823.
Alternatively, if you’re comfortable doing so, you may be able to carefully remove the trim around your radio, and/or the radio itself, to get a look at the label listing the serial number.
Once you have your VIN and the radio serial number, it’s time to unlock your radio code:
  • Enter your VIN, the radio serial number, and any other necessary information
  • Check your email for a confirmation and your 2001 Acura TL radio code
Once you’ve retrieved your code, turn your radio on again and hold the power button until the “CODE” prompt appears on the display screen. Then, enter that 5-digit code using the radio’s numerical buttons, and your radio should be unlocked.
