A black
Ram pickup truck
has been turning heads in Central Texas for a few months for its similarity to a vehicle featured prominently in the popular television show.
The truck, which is identical to the truck driven by Kevin Costner’s character John Dutton in the hit TV show Yellowstone, has raised questions about whether or not it’s a publicity stunt to promote the show’s prequel series, 1883, or of the upcoming spin-off 6666 in the area.
But it’s not a stunt at all—just a diehard fan expressing his love of the show in the one way he knows how.

A ‘Yellowstone’ super-fan’s truck

As
Outsider
reports, Belton, Texas resident and Yellowstone super-fan Jeremy Hayhurst loves the modern western so much that he created his own real-life version of the ubiquitous Dutton Ranch pickup truck.
“I saw that Dodge Dually and I joked ‘that’s my dream truck.’ Every time I saw it, I’d say ‘that’s my truck!” Hayhurst told
KWTX
.
After he fell in love with that truck, he started searching the internet for the same make and model—a 2013 Ram 3500 Laramie short bed—featured in the show. It wasn’t until February of last year that he managed to find a similar model.
Unfortunately, the used truck—a 2018 Ram—was located in Houston, which was still reeling from a historic ice storm that had knocked out power for much of Central Texas. But that didn’t stop Hayhurst.

A labor of love modifying the truck

After he purchased the truck (Hayhurst did not disclose the price), he started making moves to replicate the truck featured in the show.
He purchased new tires as well as a front grille and large headache rack to the rear. In late 2021, he was able to add the finishing touch: a custom-made “Yellowstone Dutton Ranch” decal.
The only difference between this truck and the one on the show, Hayhurst told KWTX, is that the side mirrors on the 2018 model are a little wider than the 2013 model used in Yellowstone.

The ‘Yellowstone’ truck is turning heads in Central Texas

When he applied the decal, Hayhurst said the truck immediately started turning heads, especially for other diehard fans of the show. “The biggest question I get as soon as they pull up, man or woman, they ask ‘where is Rip?” Hayhurst told KWTX, in reference to a popular Yellowstone character.
He added that people would ask him if he was part of the show’s crew, to which he’d reply he was just a fan.

A local celebrity

Hayhurst told KWTX that his truck has been the subject of thousands of photos, with some fans asking him for snapshots of the truck while he’s out and about in town. Others will take photos while driving alongside Hayhurst’s truck.
He said in addition to having his dream truck, the enjoyment it brings to other Yellowstone fans is icing on the cake.
