With 4 Models in Top 10, Honda Ranks as One of the Best American Automakers

The new American-Made Index, which measures automotive manufacturing in the U.S., has placed four Honda models in the top 10.

Honda is being lauded as one of the best American automakers per the Cars.com 2022 American-Made Index, with four Honda models ranking in the top 10 and seven
Honda
and
Acura
models ranking among the top 20.
The
American-Made Index
considers numerous parameters, including final assembly site, percentage of U.S. and Canadian parts, country of origin for available engines, country of origin for available transmissions, and U.S. manufacturing employees relative to the automaker's footprint.

Alabama, Ohio serve as manufacturing hubs for Honda’s top models

All four Honda models in the top 10 were also designed and developed in the United States by Honda engineers. The engines that power these cars are produced at Honda's Alabama Auto Factory, while the transmissions are manufactured nearby at Honda's transmission plant in
Tallapoosa, Georgia
.

Honda nears $20 billion in spending on vehicle production in US

More than two-thirds of the Honda cars sold in the U.S. in 2021 were made at Honda plants in Ohio, Indiana, and Alabama—the second-highest share of vehicles built and sold in the U.S. by a full-line automaker
Honda also has more vehicle plants in the U.S. than any other international automaker at five. And over the last 40 years, Honda has made more than 29 million cars and light trucks here.
Honda has spent a total of $19 billion on producing cars in the U.S., including more than $3.2 billion in just the last five years. The company also works with more than 600 U.S. original equipment manufacturers.
In 2021, Honda spent $23.1 billion on parts made in the U.S. and has spent about $470 billion total since 1979.
