It’s time to think seriously about
Kia
. The South Korean automaker has been making some impressive cars, and is even currently exploring solid state batteries for EVs.
Groups that watch the car industry have certainly taken notice of Kia and its cars. They have been noting individual makes for various reasons all this year.
The latest prize comes from JD Powers. They recognized the brand for dependability, and perhaps you should too after this study.

Dependable Kia tops the list

According to
Fox News
, JD Powers ranked brands for dependability this year. Kia topped the list. It beat Toyota, Buick, and Lexus in the rankings.
It gets better for Kia because its sister brands are also ranked highly. Hyundai was ranked the third most dependable, and Genesis was considered the fourth most dependable.
This study comes after some 2022 Kia cars won accolades. Jerry reported that Consumer Reports rated the
2022 Niro Electric the best EV
, and that it
tied with Tesla's Model 3 for best EVs
in a survey conducted by JD Powers and Plugshare.
This is particularly impressive since the Niro Electric is cheaper than the Model 3. The Kia Telluride also gets plenty of accolades from other sites.

The list was generated when JD Powers ran the 2022 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study. This is a survey of people who owned a particular car for three years, which means that they were 2019 models. Tesla cars were excluded because of a small sample size.
The participants in the survey were asked about 184 possible problem areas and the current overall condition of their car. They were asked to grade their cars on those problem areas.
The area that got the most complaints from owners of all car brands in the survey was infotainment. Mass-market cars had fewer reported infotainment system complaints than luxury brands because their technology was simpler.
This list has changed a lot from last year. For instance, Lexus was in Kia's spot in 2021. Tesla was unofficially put on their list in 2021 and was ranked fourth most dependable of all brands, but it was removed from this year's survey altogether.
The position of Porsche changed the most. It was ranked second in dependability last year, but it dropped to seventh place this year.

The test also rated cars in popular categories. Cars from Kia's sister brand Hyundai were rated as the best in two areas, with the Hyundai Sonata voted best midsize car, and the Hyundai Santa Fe declared the best Midsize SUV.
The Toyota Corolla won in the compact car category, and Toyota Tundra won the most dependable large light-duty pickup.
Buick's Envision, a compact SUV with many luxury features, scored the top spot in its category last year and this year. Buick Envisions are imported from China, where Buicks, in general, are pretty popular.
