If you think
Toyota
only makes Prius and Tacomas, think again. The world may not be ready for the high bar the
Japanese automaker
has set for this mean and menacing racing machine.
Can you imagine a vehicle with 940 hp with a Turbo V8 hybrid engine? Toyota can.

The star of the show

At the recent Tokyo Auto Salon (Japan’s biggest car customizing show), the Toyota GR GT3 supercar concept was revealed. “Motorsport can’t be left behind as the automotive industry adapts production vehicles to changing times,
HotCars
notes. Toyota is ready to make the motorsport world sustainable and wants to help cut the costs associated with the sport.
Forbes
tells us that “according to Japan’s biggest selling car magazine, Best Car, we are learning that the Toyota Group is in preparations to launch what could be called an ‘LFA Part II,’ a road-going supercar that will follow in the footsteps of the highly acclaimed yet now out-of-production Lexus LFA and will vie with the most powerful hypercars in the world.”
Since the car hasn’t been named yet, it's been deemed the GR GT3 Concept. Contrary to popular belief, the vehicle won’t be battery-powered—the twin exhaust pipes on display for the public were merely a decoy. However, Forbes notes that those pipes are real and have a definite purpose.
The Japanese hypercar is expected to launch in 2025, with an exciting twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine.
According to Forbes, the engine will develop “710-hp and [be] mated to a next-generation plug-in hybrid system that will boost the car’s combined horsepower to a neck-snapping 940-hp.”

Don’t call the Toyota GR GT3 a Supra

The Toyota supercar isn’t related to any other models manufactured by the company. According to
Motor Authority
, the GR GT3 “features a long hood, plus a sleek body devoid of the overstyled rear fender seen on the Supra. The GR GT3 also features wraparound taillights that stretch almost to the rear wheel arches and are connected by a thin light strip.”
Toyota’s Gazoo Racing motorsport division developed the concept, and since it's a dedicated racing car, we won’t be seeing any of these bad boys on the streets anytime soon. However, it's possible it can become a GT3-spec customer race car.
According to
Top Gear
, “It’s unusual for a GT3 racer to not be based on a production car of course (fingers and toes crossed for a mega Toyota grand tourer off the back of this) but GR president Koji Sato has said that a working prototype of the racer will be up and running by the end of the year.”
However, the Gazoo racing team did draw inspiration from Lexus.
“Employing a reinforced Toyota GA-L platform similar to that used on the Lexus LC, the rear-drive GR GT3 concept will incorporate a rear transaxle setup and end up in two distinctly different versions—one for the race track and one for the showroom,” notes Forbes.
The Toyota supercar’s proportions may remind you of the Mercedes-AMG GT with its long nose and short rear deck. It also shares design traits from the original 2011 Lexus LFA.
We’re excited to see the Toyota GR GT3 race the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and hopefully in a GT3 racing category in the future, if it can be tied to a road car in order to qualify.

Electric vehicles are the future

Like other big names in the EV game, Toyota plans to have at least 30 BEVs on the road by 2030. And it’s likely we won’t see many more internal combustion cars from the Japanese carmaker, as they press forward toward an eco-friendly future.
If you’re considering jumping on the
electric car
bandwagon, it’s important to not only find the best price for your vehicle but to make sure you’re not getting overcharged each month for car insurance.
