Movies nowadays have
vehicles that steal the show
, so to speak, over the characters that get paid the big bucks to act in it. Some are memorable for various reasons, including one such menacing
pickup truck
, known for its "role" in the Jeepers Creepers film series.
This truck was the opposite of Herbie the VW Beetle from the old Disney film The Love Bug. It was the stuff of nightmares, actually. Was the eerie-looking truck real, or was it fictionalized for the film? Let's take a look.

Was the Jeepers Creepers truck real?

The Jeepers Creepers truck is based on an actual vehicle. What the film uses, though, is a modified 1941 Chevy COE (Cab Over Engine) model that came with a flatbed frame.
These pickups generally had a six-cylinder engine, but you could also get a four-cylinder if you wanted. Typically, they came with the cab and frame, where you could customize a flatbed for the back. The Jeepers Creepers truck got a boxy setup for the creature to hide the bodies.
According to
The Creeper Truck
website, three of these trucks were brought in for the movie. The film's production crew set out to modify them with two-inch square tubing and sheet metal, which they painted to look like old, rusted plating.
Much of the front bumper was constructed to make its appearance even scarier. The pickup they used for the chase scenes had a new Chevy engine dropped in with an automatic transmission, so it could handle the speed necessary to chase down victims.
Of course, to add even more creepiness, they put on the iconic license plate that read BEATNGU, which basically says, "Be eating you."

Where was the Jeepers Creepers truck used in the film?

According to
TFL Truck
, we saw the Jeepers Creeper’s truck a few different times throughout the movie. Though the truck is remembered the most during the chase scenes with Justin Long and Gina Phillips' characters, who happen to be teenage siblings taking a road trip together.
After they had a brush with the truck on the road earlier that day, they came across it again when they spotted it next to an old abandoned church. They saw the driver taking what appeared to be bodies from the back and throwing them down a pipe.
When the driver saw the pair go by, he took off in the truck and ran them down. It rammed the back of the car a couple of times before running the two teenagers off the road into a nearby field.

Where are the trucks today?

Once the vehicles were done with their film debut in the Jeepers Creepers series, the trucks went their merry ways. One of them was sold in 2008 to a collector in California who bought it from a fellow in Florida for $4,559. It appears that the old truck was the prototype from the movie, which is what they designed the other two trucks after.
That collector is the owner of The Creeper Truck website, where he uploads images of the Jeepers Creepers Chevy pickup and updates fans on all the changes he makes to it along the way.
Another one of the pickups went to another collector years ago and still had the original engine in it at that time.
The last Jeepers Creepers truck they used in the chase scenes, with the beefed-up motor and transmission, has not been found.
