Even if it didn't keep its top spot this year, the 2022 Subaru Outback still has high owner satisfaction scores. Testers still found the Subaru Outback to have great handling and exceptional off-road performance. The X-Mode AWD system offers SUV drivers some extra utility with drive modes for deep mud and snow.

The available Wilderness edition offers several new features for adventurers. A new roof rack and extra storage compartments are included, as well as more X-Mode features.

CR even said that the Subaru Outback has better braking performance than the Toyota RAV4 Prime. The seats are also slightly roomier and have better lumbar support. However, the infotainment system suffers from lagging response times and confusing controls.
