background
Two prestigious British brands have combined to create a masterwork of
luxury
excess.
In late 2020, Aston Martin announced the Aston Martin DBX Bowmore Edition, a special trim level of its
DBX SUV
.
The Bowmore distillery—the oldest on the Scottish Isle of Islay—has been producing spirits since 1779.
The automaker said the DBX Bowmore Edition "captures the essence" of the two luxury brands, and fed readers some gobbledygook about how both brands want to create a better world by selling you an even more expensive car with a bottle of whiskey in the glove box.
Read it for yourself: "DBX Bowmore Edition captures the essence of two luxury British brands," reads the
automaker's website
for the limited-edition vehicle. "A shared desire to embrace and enhance the world through extraordinary moments and enduringly beautiful creations."

Where can I get one?

Don't you want to know a little about what makes it special, first? Exclusivity is one aspect, as the automaker's personalization service, Q by Aston Martin, made just 18 of the special-edition Bowmore DBXs, delivered to customers at a "private lifestyle experience" in Scotland.
That means you probably won't be able to get one from the manufacturer, and will probably pay a big markup to buy it secondhand from the current owners.
So now that's out of the way, let's talk about some of what makes this Aston Martin special.

An embodiment of both brands

The Aston Martin DBX Bowmore Edition features inlaid strips of copper pulled straight from Bowmore's whiskey stills, while Bowmore tweed accented the interior.
It was also offered in an exclusive Bowmore Blue paint scheme, which was an archived color brought back specifically for this vehicle.
The interior also featured polished copper cup holders and sill plaques made of recycled copper from Bowmore's original still. In other words, there's a lot of copper in this SUV.
It maintains the same performance figures as the baseline DBX, so you'd essentially have paid $260,000 for something mechanically identical to the regular model.

Is this the last collaboration with a distillery?

By no means. Aston Martin has partnered with the Bowmore Distillery since this special-edition DBX came and went. But previously, it was mostly geared toward Bowmore's production of whiskey, not cars.
In 2020, Bowmore and Aston Martin made a $65,000-per-bottle single malt scotch whiskey—with a special Aston Martin DB5 piston incorporated into the bottle.
More recently, the two purveyors of luxury goods revealed another whiskey collab, with the ARC-52 52-year-aged single malt whiskey priced at $75,000.

The Aston Martin DBX

The DBX is Aston Martin's first SUV. Introduced in 2020, the base DBX has been lauded by reviewers for its beautiful styling, excellent ride and handling and its improved practicality over other Aston Martin vehicles.
Producing 542 horsepower with a top speed of 181 mph and a 0-100km/h (0-to-62 mph) time of 4.5 seconds, it's not your typical grocery-getter. It also starts at $188,986, so get saving.
The DBX707 is its premium iteration, capable of producing 697 horsepower and a 0-100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds with a top speed of 193 mph. That additional performance comes at a cost, with the DBX707 starting at $239,086 MSRP.

Public service announcement

It should go without saying that you shouldn't drink and drive—if not for the egregious disregard for human life, then for the fact that a DUI will jack up your car insurance premium.
For those who stay sober while driving, you could still stand to save a little more on your car insurance.
