The Shelby Cobra is a classic speedster with a Ford
V8 engine that has been used in racing both abroad and in the U.S. since the 1960s, but the most recent remake got a serious makeover. To commemorate 60 years of Shelby American, the company is releasing an ultra-limited edition run of the Cobra with just ten total produced. The extremely rare Cobra—dubbed the Diamond Edition—will have up to 800 horsepower
, but the real jaw-dropper on this racer is the carbon-fiber body, which itself weighs a mere 88 lbs. The Diamond Edition is being made in collaboration with Texas-based shop Classic Recreations
and the price point starts at a soaring $1.2 million, and that’s before any customizations. Recreating classic cars for the future

Started just 15 years ago in Yukon, Oklahoma, the shop behind the carbon fiber Shelby Cobra started out recreating and restoring high-performance cars and trucks for enthusiasts all over. The shop’s specialty is combining elements from the past—like the nostalgic features of classic cars—with new, modern features and state-of-the-art technology.
This isn’t the first time they’ve released an ultra-light carbon fiber-body car into the world. In 2021, Classic Recreations helped to create an all-carbon GT5000CR Mustang

The ultra-light 88-pound figure includes the front and rear clips as well as the doors and floor of the automobile and features a Generation 3 Coyote V-8 engine from Ford Performance. In combination with the T56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission, that's a pretty powerful ride, but you’ll need to opt for the VMP supercharging to get the full 800 horsepower from it.
With the carbon-fiber body and robust performance capabilities, this is probably the closest you’ll get to powering a rocket ship on wheels. But don’t fret, the six-piston Wilwood brakes are there for when you need to bring things to a halt.
According to Classic Recreations founder Jason Engel—as reported by Car and Driver
—the goal of this creation was “to place the highest-horsepower engine possible in the lightest, most agile car imaginable.” Safe to say it’s mission accomplished! Remember that carbon-body GT5000CR Mustang? The Shelby Cobra is going to cost you about four times that amount, and being an officially licensed Coba, they’re going to sell out fast.
