When your

is tanking, thinking outside the box might not be the worst idea.
Stellantis hopes to polish the image of its beleaguered Fiat brand through its
collaboration with the pandemic-fighting non-profit (RED)
. Fiat has designed a RED version of every model, beginning with the 2022 Fiat (500) RED, which features COVID-19 fighting technologies.
In addition to allowing vehicle owners to wage their personal battle against the pandemic, the collaboration helps raise money for (RED), a non-profit originally founded by U2's Bono and filmmaker Bobby Shriver to battle the AIDS pandemic.

How does the Fiat (500) RED battle COVID-19?

The Fiat (500) RED features an extensive array of tools to fight germs and viruses that can lead to disease, such as COVID-19. While Fiat doesn't go so far as to claim its vehicle can prevent COVID-19, it does state drivers will feel safer, according to
Drive
.
First, the Fiat 500's air circulation system treats cabin air with a biocide system as the air recirculates, reducing exposure to a virus in a tightly-enclosed space. Also, high-contact surfaces, such as seats and the steering wheel, are crafted in materials treated with antibacterials.
Most intriguingly, the glovebox features a UV-C lamp that vehicle owners and occupants can use to sanitize smartphones, keys, eyeglasses, and bottles with the touch of a button.

Limited availability for Fiat (500) RED

MORE: Fiat Ranked Last in the Consumer Reports List of Top Brands
The original Fiat 500e is available only in Europe, Israel, and Brazil, with planned expansion into Japan in 2022,
Mopar Insiders
reports. In the United Kingdom, the RED version is available for 16,435 pounds ($21,995 U.S. dollars), about a 10 percentage point increase on the standard 500.
But Fiat did bring the RED version of the electric hatchback to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January, teasing that the model might be slated for future release in the United States. Fiat discontinued the 500 nameplate in U.S. offerings after the 2020 model year. The models had ranked poorly in Consumer Reports and among owner satisfaction surveys.
As the United States grows its EV charging network across the sprawling landscape in coming years, automakers will likely make the move to bring their most popular EVs to the massive U.S. market.

Stellantis has not ignored the U.S. market when it comes to the RED collaboration. Stellantis debuted the 2022 Ram 1500 (RED) during the fall in both its V-8 and EcoDiesel versions.
Stellantis Jeep brand brought its 2022 Jeep Compass (RED) to the U.S. market in winter 2021 and plans to add the Jeep Renegade (RED) this spring.
Each limited-edition RED model includes a unique red paint and interior color scheme in addition to any virus-combatting features. Fiat is even issuing a RED version of a scooter the brand produces.
Stellantis plans to raise at least $4 million for the (RED) Global Fund between 2021 and 2023 to help fight the COVID-19 pandemic and any other type of pandemic that could emerge to damage the world's people and economic systems into the future.
