Rumors swirled in recent years that
Tesla
was developing not just
self-driving cars
, but a new hoverboard, which had many people eagerly awaiting more news on the topic. But were these rumors based in reality? Disappointingly, it turns out that they weren't.
But that's unlikely to stop Tesla's
impressive earnings growth
, especially with all the new technology it has on the horizon.

Where did the rumors about Tesla's hoverboard come from?

As with most anything these days, the rumors regarding Tesla's new hoverboard started on the internet. More specifically, they surfaced as a result of a YouTube video posted back in 2019.
As
Gomiso
explained, a mysterious video claiming that the hoverboard was Tesla's newest product got people talking quickly. There was only one problem, however: the video was fake.
Basically, the YouTube video in question managed to convince viewers that the hoverboard was real thanks to some impressive special effects created by digital artist Iskander Utebayev.  Alas, though, the hoverboard wasn't to be.
Rumors regarding the matter were ultimately debunked, leaving many potential buyers with dashed hopes of one day owning their own Tesla hoverboard.

Tesla is focused on other big tech ideas

Even though the Tesla hoverboard didn't turn out to be real, that doesn't mean that the company hasn't been hard at work on other potentially big tech developments. One of these, which has actually been confirmed by Elon Musk himself, is a robot known simply as the "Tesla Bot."
The Verge
reports that the Tesla Bot is designed to take over physical tasks usually handled by humans, ones that are "unsafe, repetitive, or boring," according to Tesla's website. The robot will come in a human form, reaching 5 ft. 8 in. tall and weighing 125 lbs. Will this end up being one of Tesla's less-than-stellar ideas? Only time will tell.
It's unclear when exactly the Tesla Bot prototype is expected to debut, but if all goes according to plan, it should appear sometime in 2022.

If you're still feeling disappointed that you won't be able to get your hands on your very own Tesla hoverboard, don’t fear. There are hoverboards out there on the market, just waiting for their next owners--even if they aren't quite up to the level of the faux board featured in the fake YouTube video.
Gadget Review
ran tests on a variety of hoverboards not long ago and came up with its list of the top seven. Topping the list was the Tomoloo Hoverboard with LED lights, which received positive reviews for being "fast, fun, and easy to learn."
Coming in second was the XPRIT hoverboard, which got the nod for being a great value. It comes in at the bottom in terms of price but still comes equipped with bonus features like a Bluetooth wireless speaker and LED lights.
