The Evil Twin of the Porsche Carrera GT: The RUF CTR3

The RUF CTR3 has a lot in common with the Porsche Carrera GT besides some minor differences.

Porsche is a well-known automaker when it comes to
luxury cars
, but other automakers think they can do better than Porsche. For example, the Porsche 911 and its various trims have had a long history, and another German automaker, Ruf Automobile, has made some upgrades to the car. Here's a look at the RUF CTR3, the evil twin of the Porsche Carrera GT.

The RUF CTR3 is not a Porsche, but it's pretty close

Anyone who takes a look at the RUF CTR3 and compares it to a Porsche Carrera GT might think that they are the same car. That's not surprising because, according to
Robb Report
, Ruf's business model was building and selling custom Porsches.
The CTR3 isn't a custom Porsche, however. That's because the team designing the car wanted to design a car from the ground up instead. Visually, it's similar to a Porsche, but the design team made some obvious tweaks.
For example, its headlights and fenders are similar to the ones on the famous Porsche 911. But, in terms of measurements, the CTR3 is significantly longer and wider than a Porsche. Its color scheme, both on the inside and the outside are also different too.

Just how powerful is the RUF CTR3?

The biggest upgrade, however, happened under the hood. It's still using a 3.8-liter flat-six engine which is, again, quite similar to what's on the Porsche. The big difference is that Ruf slapped two massive turbochargers onto the engine, which boosted its power significantly.
The CTR3 gets 682 horsepower from this setup. For comparison, a Carrera GT could get somewhere between 300 and 500 horsepower, depending on the engine choice. Those extra horses ultimately allow the CTR3 to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds, and it could also top out at about 233 mph.
Ruf's decision to make the CTR3 wider also paid dividends, as it made the car easier to handle. Its suspension and brakes were also improvements over the Porsche. As such, the CTR3 should be able to handle racetracks as well as any Porsche can, perhaps even better.

This German sports car is extremely rare too

One of the more interesting aspects about the CTR3 is just how rare it is. Porsche fans are likely used to this, as Porsche is
only selling six units
of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport 25. At over $600,000 apiece, that Porsche is rare and expensive, but the CTR3 has it beat.
Ruf only made 30 of these Porsche-inspired sports cars. Only three of those cars received a Chroma Flash Hologram Matte paint job, and that makes it not just rare, but also quite expensive. In fact, a CTR3 with that paint job is estimated to be worth about $1.1 million.
Anybody who can afford that price tag may be able to get their hands on a beautifully made, Porsche-inspired sports car. It doesn't have high-tech features such as an infotainment system, but it's definitely stylish and fast.

How to get a better car insurance policy

Ruf wanted to upgrade a Porsche into a better car, and drivers can do the same thing for their car insurance.
