Ford
is most famous for the F-150 pickup truck, but the company also makes good SUVs with unique features and options. But when you have extra passengers and cargo, the Expedition Max takes the front seat.
The Ford Expedition Max is designed for car owners looking for more space in an SUV. It has more interior space and a longer wheelbase than the standard Ford Expedition which allows seating for up to eight passengers and their cargo.
The Ford Expedition is already very roomy, but its even bigger version, the Expedition Max, comes with a longer wheelbase and cargo hold. But is the Expedition Max really worth the extra investment?
Jerry
provides a clear insight into the Ford Expedition.

How big is the Ford Expedition Max?

If you thought the standard Expedition was big, wait till you see the Expedition Max. You simply can't ignore this behemoth on the road barreling towards you.
Ford's plus-size model is humongous, especially when you consider its sheer length. The Max is 221.9 inches long and 93.4 inches wide (mirrors included) and rides on a 131.6-inch wheelbase.
The Expedition Max's more notable exterior features include running boards, halogen projector-beam headlights, a roof rack, privacy glass, a bright chrome grille, and some sizeable 22-inch alloy wheels.
In RWD guise, the Expedition Max is 76.4 inches tall with a maximum ground clearance of 9.8 inches. It has a curb weight of 5,534 lbs. In the 4x2 that swells to 5,794 lbs. in the 4x4 guise.

The Ford Expedition Max’s interior

Despite the standard Expedition having a significant wheelbase size, the Max provides the same passenger space.
However, the Ford Expedition Max's cargo load is significantly larger and offers significant legroom in the front (43.9 inches). Those in the second row have 41.5 inches of legroom, while the third-row occupants have 36.1 inches of space.
According to
Ford's
website, the Expedition Platinum Max and F-150 King Ranch options also have heated and ventilated front seats and a slightly raised entry point to the cabin. It also comes with running boards to easily allow passengers to get in and out of the cabin.
The extended wheelbase of the Ford Expedition Max may not translate into more passenger space than the standard Expedition. However, it boasts a serious amount of trunk space and overall cargo room.
You get about 34.3 cubic feet of space that can accommodate extensive shopping. Fold the third-row seat down, and you'll have 73.3 cubic feet of space. It doesn't end there. Fold all the possible seats, and you'll have an impressive 121.5 cubic feet of space.
The Max's deep door pockets, enormous center console storage bin, and 15 cup holders also allow you to store smaller items.

Handling and driving

The Ford Expedition Max isn't an SUV for vehicle owners looking for fun-to-drive cars. It's a large people carrier that feels just the same when behind the wheel.
The sheer size of this SUV makes it a lot of work to maneuver in the city or in tight parking lots. The SUV's intimidating size can easily fluster an inexperienced driver, especially when driving through tight spaces.
However, the Ford Expedition Max ranks as one of the best cruisers out on the open road. It easily soaks up bumps without protest. Steering is somewhat sloppy, but it comes with the territory because of its body-on-frame chassis. It feels stable enough on the open road as long as you don't make sharp swerves while in full gear.

The verdict on the Ford Expedition Max and car insurance

At $55,835 for the Ford Expedition Max's base trim and $76,965 for a Platinum model with no extras, this massive SUV is an excellent contender. You get all the SUV capabilities and practicalities of the standard Expedition.
Instead, the Max improves upon the already capable standard Extender by providing even more cargo space. If you're a fan of lots of space, tech, and solid performance in an SUV, the Expedition Max is an excellent place to start.
