A video detailing a
Tesla
jumping a hill and crashing into a parked vehicle has gone viral and police are still trying to identify the driver.
As
Road and Track
reports, someone jumped their rented 2018
Tesla Model S
on March 20 around midnight in Echo Park, a neighborhood of Los Angeles. After it went airborne through the intersection of Baxter and Alvarado streets, the Tesla hit two parked cars and a few trash cans.
It wasn’t too spontaneous, either; the driver performed this stunt in front of a crowd of people following a Tesla meet earlier that evening. The YouTuber who posted the video of the jump, Alex Choi, claimed nobody was hurt in the stunt.
Despite online speculation, the LAPD hasn’t yet confirmed the driver or the renter of the Tesla. They are currently working with Tesla and the owner of the rental car, Enterprise. The rental Tesla was abandoned at the scene and the driver faces misdemeanor hit-and-run charges. There’s currently no description of the driver.

A reward for information about the Tesla crash

Police noted that nobody was injured based on what they’ve seen and that there were several witnesses and added that anyone who comes forward and can identify the driver would receive a $1,000 reward.
They’ve requested the public stop coming forward with tips, however, after many pointed to YouTuber Dominykas Zeglaitis, aka Durte Dom, as the perpetrator.
Zeglaitis, who was once a member of David Dobrik’s Vlog Squad and is no stranger to controversy, posted videos of the incident on his social media accounts claiming to have been involved.
He has since backpedaled (likely after the LAPD named him a person of interest in the case) claiming that the video he posted was part of a prank and that he was not involved.

A copycat incident

Despite no injuries, that doesn’t mean everything came out undamaged. R&T interviewed a musician whose Subaru Forester was one of the parked vehicles struck by the flying Tesla. He said his front tires, steering column and suspension were
casualties of the stunt
.
It’s not the first time someone attempted this same stunt at this very intersection. In 2020, YouTuber David Dobrik performed the same stunt in his Tesla Model X, but not at the same speed as the yet-unnamed driver in this recent video.
The unidentified driver is likely laying low. Until then, they probably won’t be renting another vehicle anytime soon.
