In July, black and white dalmatian spotted Chevy
Corvette E-Ray prototypes were spotted in Nürburgring, a 4.8-mile track with 27 turns in Nürburg, Germany. Sneak peek "spy" photos captured the external view of the prototypes racing the tracks and internal photos were shared more recently in August. Sources have eyes on the target–interior of the Chevy E-ray
While it should be prefaced that prototypes are, well, prototypes, and thus, the final product to hit markets in 2024 might not look the same, there’s still a lot to glean.
A great example of this is a lot of prototypes seen testing their skills on racetracks around the world that have unique paint designs, like the Chevy Corvette E-ray’s cookies and cream design. It’s doubtful you’ll see that for sale when these are available to consumers.
But some things will probably stick around, like the black and red theme of the interior. This theme includes black carbon fiber bucket seats with red stitching or the black and red dash with large swaths of red that continue to the doors and the center console.
While testing in Europe means the steering wheel with paddle shifters is on the right, you'll definitely get it on the left in the States. Then, of course, there's also the expected all-wheel drive and two electric motors to support an LT2 V8 engine giving about 600 horsepower.
The Chevy Corvette E-ray that self-destructed
One of the prototypes for the Chevy Corvette E-ray is no more. While fires, when testing, aren’t anything new, the damage to the prototype seen in photos is extensive.
The rubble and ash are unrecognizable as any specific vehicle, and without the remnants of tire wheels, one might not be able to tell that it had been a car in the first place.
In an interview with Motor1
Chevrolet did comment on the incident saying: “Corvette development vehicle undergoing extreme testing by one of our suppliers this week had a thermal incident. All who were involved are safe as this is our top priority. We are investigating the situation with the supplier.”
So it’s safe to say that the other prototypes are being treated carefully to ensure they don’t go out in a fiery blaze of glory and make it past the testing stage.
