The future looks a little grim for
Rivian
workers—at least those who aren’t working in a manufacturing position. Recent reports indicate that Rivian is primed to fire or lay off hundreds of workers, particularly those who aren’t in a manufacturing position. This move follows hiring surges that may have pushed Rivian past its limits, so the brand is evaluating what moves need to be made to limit the amount being paid to workers.
Job uncertainty is never easy to cope with. In times like these, many people are looking for ways to cut back on their bills. One way that’s frequently overlooked is to start saving money on your

Rivian employees could be facing lay-offs or worse

Bloomberg
offers new details into the reports that Rivian employees could be in trouble. Apparently, Rivian employees in non-manufacturing roles, specifically those with dual-function jobs, are most likely to be let go. Of the 14,000 people that Rivian employees, somewhere around 5% could get released, possibly without a chance of returning.

Who announced Rivian’s plans to slash their employee numbers?

Bloomberg also noted that the people who shared their information did not announce their names and wished to be kept anonymous, likely because they worked for Rivian.
For employees, the announcement is almost certainly a surprise and isn’t a good look for a company that has struggled to meet production expectations, suffering numerous production delays on their R1T and other models. Start-ups are notoriously unpredictable, and Rivian has certainly lived up to the reputation.

Has Rivian released a statement following the surprise report?

So far, Rivian hasn’t addressed the reports, which, if they were more than rumors, the company would probably step up to confirm or deny them. However, Rivian’s silence doesn’t bode well for workers who could soon be saying goodbye to their job positions.
For now, Rivian should perhaps be given a little bit of slack. Tesla is also slimming down its workforce, as EV producers and other companies are feeling the pressure of inflation rates and supply chain issues.
The other reason that Rivian could be about to fire employees is due to the predicted recession—which market experts predict will hit the U.S. in Q1 and Q2 of 2023. Carmakers will have to do their best to hold on over the course of the next year.
