background
After skipping the 2021 model year entirely,
Audi
has introduced a totally redesigned
A3
for 2022.
According to sales reports from
goodcarbadcar.net
, the redesigned model is selling well compared to the rest of Audi’s lineup and is poised to continue gaining traction as the redesigned model becomes more available.
Read along with the car ownership experts at

as we unpack how the new A3 is faring, what’s new, and how it compares to other Audi models.

The redesigned A3 is outselling rivals already

Even with climbing gas prices, it's hard to get American drivers excited about a sedan. Compact and crossover SUVs like the ultra-popular
Audi Q5
still outsell every other model in Audi’s lineup, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an audience for the A3.
In Q2 of 2022, the Q5 sold 15,621 compared to the A3’s 3,934, but if gas prices continue to stay high, SUV drivers that can afford to downsize might consider making the switch to a compact car like the A3. The new redesign could be just the thing to convert them.
First introduced in 1996, the A3 is Audi’s cheapest and smallest vehicle. The new A3 is poised to compete with other subcompact luxury cars like the BMW 2 Series Gran Couple or the Acura Integra. According to goodcarbadcar.net, it’s outsold both of them this year so far.

What’s new for the A3’s refresh?

According to
Motor Trend
, the new A3 is a more high-tech upgrade with drastically better fuel economy. For 2022, the A3 is powered by a version of Volkswagen's E888-code 2.0-liter turbo-four and gets a much-improved 28-29/36-38 mpg.
The biggest improvement in the redesigned A3 is probably its tech. Every A3 now comes with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster. More expensive trims include a 12.3-inch digital cockpit display.
If you want something with a little bit more punch beyond the A3’s 201 horsepower, there are two performance models to check out as well.
The
S3
and the RS3 will definitely satisfy your need for speed, with the latter capable of producing up to 401 horsepower. According to Audi, it can reach 62 mph in 3.8 seconds. The Audi A3 has a recommended MSRP of $34,900.
