Unless you’re a Formula 1 fan, you might not know about Red Bull’s involvement in auto racing. But the energy drink brand has become one of the sport’s most fierce competitors, and now, it’s joining some of its strongest rivals in another field—

The RB17 will be Red Bull’s first solo production car project, but don’t get your hopes of owning one up just yet. The car will cost $6.2 million when it arrives in 2025.

The Red Bull RB17—ultimate luxury and speed

Red Bull’s auto racing division isn’t new. After being an F1 sponsor for a decade, the energy drink company founded its own team in 2005. Since then, its racing and Advanced Technologies divisions have produced some of the best race cars in the sport.
The RB 17 doesn’t veer too far from that trajectory. Designed specifically for the track, the hypercar’s 1,100-hp hybrid engine gives it a fighting chance against any other model in the segment.
The key difference between the RB 17 and Red Bull’s other designs is that it’s available for sale to the public. With a $6.2 million price tag, the track-only sports car is the definition of a splurge purchase.
But
Automotive News
says Redbull has bundled a few perks with the car to make it worth each buyer’s while, including on-track training and experiences with the company’s F1 racing team.

Valkyrie—Red Bull’s first crack at the hypercar

The RB 17 will be Red Bull’s first hypercar to carry the energy drink’s name, but the project isn’t the company’s first experience building a car for the rich and famous. That honor goes to the Aston Martin Valkyrie.
The Valkyrie was to be the culmination of the years-long F1 partnership between Aston Martin and Red Bull, which ended for the 2021 season. Both brands designed the car together.
Aston Martin pre-sold all 150 Valkyries before production began in November, but
Bloomberg
says deliveries stalled when problems with the car’s electronics were discovered. The legendary British car brand said the project was back on track at the beginning of January.
The RB 17 project may look like a direct competitor to the Valkyrie collab, but with its launch date set to 2025, the hypercar will likely have a whole other batch of high-priced models to contend with.

Owning a Red Bull hypercar

For most of us, $6.2 million is way over budget for a set of wheels. But for the few who can afford such a high-priced item, the price tag is just the beginning of what it will cost to own the car.
After handing over the fortune for an RB 17, buyers will need to find car insurance for the vehicle based on how they intend to use it. With Red Bull planning to limit production to 50 units, most owners will seek a collector car policy based on agreed value.
And because the RB 17 won’t be street-legal, owners will need to rely on track high-performance driver’s education (HPDE), or “track day” insurance.
