, few brands have as much clout as Land Rover. While the company has had a few hiccups with recalls recently, the Range Rover Sport SVR maintains an impressive reputation.
The famed big luxury vehicle recently underwent a redesign. One that will benefit a certain Bavarian-based competitor.

Legacy of the Range Rover Sport

While Land Rover has been around since 1948, the Range Rover Sport is much younger, debuting in 2005. Even though Range Rovers are rugged and capable of handling tough driving conditions, the British carmaker wanted a more sporty version of the iconic car.
When the Range Rover Sport first appeared as a concept car, it was a low-hanging three-door coupe. However, the prototype didn't last and the first mass-produced Range Rover Sport had a bulkier design. Still, it was a speedy SUV due to its naturally aspirated 4.4-L V8 engine.
Those who wanted an even sportier Range Rover would have to wait until 2013 when the Range Rover Sport SVR premiered (SVR being an abbreviation of Special Vehicle Racing). This updated Range Rover had an enhanced transmission that maintained 50% of torque when shifting from first to second gear.
While this was an impressive vehicle, it would undergo a major change in 2022.

The original Range Rover Sport SVR carried a beefy 5.0-L supercharged V8 courtesy of Jaguar. However, the designers at Land Rover decided it was time for a change, and reached out across the English Channel for a new engine supplier.
The new Range Rover Sport SVR will now carry a BMW-made engine. Specifically, it will be a 4.4-L V8 which will be able to produce a jaw-dropping 625 hp, as reported by
Motor1
. The change was made to make the Land Rover Sport SVR more competitive with the Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5 M.
The improvements don't end with the engine. The Range Rover Sport SVR will also be built on Land Rover's MLA Flex architecture, which should improve torsional stiffness by 50%. Additionally, this will reduce car-based noise by 24%.

The new Range Rover Sport SVR certainly has some nice perks. For one, it keeps up the Land Rover tradition of building elegant-looking vehicles. Not to mention this will be one of the smoothest vehicles available on the market.
But nothing is perfect, and the Range Rover Sport SVR does have some shortfalls.
For starters, the third row is really only accessible for kids. Additionally, there have been many complaints that the infotainment system has glitches. But the worst thing about this car is the same with all Land Rovers: the gas mileage.
The Range Rover Sport SVR only gets a combined MPG of 16.  If you want to drive around in this beautiful vehicle, be ready to pay for it at the pump.
