With inflation and rising gas costs, many new
car buyers
are looking to downsize their SUV into a sedan.  While it is possible to
reduce gas costs
without downsizing, driving smaller remains a tried and true way to save on fuel expenses.
One of the biggest problems with sedans is that they have the reputation of being boring. This perception has led many car buyers to search for the best sports sedan.
A sport sedan offers all the economical perks of a normal sedan, while also providing some excitement under the hood. Given that sports sedans are economically sound and offer some excitement, they may rival SUVs in popularity in the coming years.
For starters, a sports sedan will almost always have better gas mileage than an SUV. While the best sports sedans will have high-performance engines, sedans will be lighter and more aerodynamic than SUVs. This typically offers better fuel economy even with engines that have insanely high horsepower. Additionally, sports sedans currently have better EV and PHEV options than SUVs or trucks, as documented by
CarBuzz
.
In some regards, the best sports sedans will offer better security than most SUVs. Sedan drivers rarely have to worry about their vehicle getting flipped in an accident due to its low center of gravity. Additionally, a sedan allows drivers to safely store valuables in a locked, windowless, trunk. With an SUV, it’s harder to keep valuables out of sight from potential burglars.

The best sports sedans on today's market

If money is not an objection, we'd have to argue that the Porsche Taycan should be considered as one of the best sports sedans available today. The Taycan has an unmistakable Porsche body and comes fully electric.
It has a variety of diverse trims to choose from, allowing buyers to choose between performance or frugality. The base trim has a single motor that produces 321 hp and has a range of 199 miles. The Taycan base starts at $84,050, and the top-tier Turbo S trim starts at $186,350.
If going fully electric isn't an option for you, then we'd recommend the Mercedes AMG CLA 45 as the best sports sedan powered by gas. This is such a high-performance sedan that Mercedes is actually calling it a four-door coupe. Word games aside, this sports sedan can produce 382 hp on its base trim and starts at $55,350.

What are the best sports sedans on a budget?

For decades, the Honda Civic has remained one of the most affordable sports cars. In the past, the Civic could be classified as a compact car. But the Honda Civic Si is much more in sports sedan territory. Its four-door cabin offers a passenger area 96 cubic feet large.
If you want one of the best sports sedans for under $30k, the Civic Si is easily the best choice. While we do love the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Subaru WRX, they can't touch the Civic's affordable price tag of $28,315.
