Red Notice dropped on Netflix in late 2021, and audiences quickly took to the star-studded comedy
adventure film
. One aspect of Red Notice that certainly contributed to its success was its unique variety of cars that appeared on the screen.
From seeing The Rock in a small Porsche to Gal Gadot in a vintage Mercedes, cars played a big role in the film.
MotorBiscuit
discusses some of the noteworthy cars that got the spotlight in Red Notice, and here are some of the highlights from the film.

The Volkswagen Type 181 "Thing"

The Volkswagen Thing is one of the weirdest-looking vehicles ever produced, and the quirky convertible fits nicely in a movie like Red Notice.
According to
Hagerty
, the Volkswagen Type 181, more commonly known as the Thing was originally built in 1969 for the West German military.
In 1971, a civilian version of the Thing hit the roads, and it became popular for off-road driving. Part of what makes the Thing such a relic is that its production was relatively short-lived, with sales stopping worldwide after 1980.
In Red Notice, Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson both get the chance to ride in the Volkswagen Thing. In a chase scene set in a jungle, The Rock is behind the wheel. Maybe his experience in the Fast and Furious franchise made him a choice for driver in the scene.

A Porsche Taycan for The Rock

Speaking of cars driven by Dwayne Johnson in Red Notice, another that he drove in the movie was the electric Porsche Taycan. It was only briefly featured, but it led to a funny behind-the-scenes moment.
The Taycan has been making waves in the automotive industry for maintaining the power and style expected from a Porsche despite its electric power. Because of this, it has surprisingly been outselling the signature Porsche 911.
Another benefit to the Taycan besides being electric is that it is quite large for a Porsche sports car, which is necessary because The Rock is a large man. However, filming the scene with the Taycan was apparently still a struggle, as Johnson did not easily fit into it. The crew did manage to get their shots, though!

A classic, stylish Mercedes

In Red Notice, Gal Gadot plays a slick thief, and she can be seen in a vintage Mercedes-Benz that feels appropriately villainous.
The classic car is a four-door Mercedes convertible, but MotorBiscuit was unable to identify the exact model. Thankfully, other keen-eyed viewers have been able to identify it.
According to
HITC
, the Red Notice car is a Mercedes-Benz Grosser 770. This model of Mercedes was produced from 1930 to 1943, and it is exceptionally rare. Only 205 Grosser 770 models were ever made, so the remaining models are treasured today.
A classic like this might seem like an odd choice for a movie chase, but the Grosser 770 was made to survive. Bulletproof glass and armor plating were standard on this Mercedes.
