Some of the best vehicles were featured in films from the 1980s, like Back to the Future, The Wraith, and The Cannonball Run. One film that many people loved was because of the
Porsche
that Tom Cruise drove in 'Risky Business.
Which Porsche did Cruise drive in the movie, how was it used in the film, and how much does a

How did the 'Risky Business' Porsche model get into the movie?

When the film was in the planning stages, the screenwriter, Paul Brickman, picked out the Porsche 928 to use as the movie's main car. He felt it had the right exotic look, and it just fit as the daily driver for the Chicago suburban family that the main character grew up in.
The producer, Jon Avnet, took on the task of finding the Porsche 928, but as with other films, several models would end up getting used in the movie. He reportedly went to Porsche to see if they would give him some of its cars to use.
Avnet claims they didn't want to be associated with a movie pertaining to a prostitute, so they declined. According to
Autoblog
, though, a Porsche representative didn't feel the account was quite accurate.
In the end, he went on a search himself. For 'Risky Business', he found five different versions, each one having a purpose in the movie. The most popular one had a 4.5-liter V8 engine producing 215 hp.

The five 'Risky Business' Porsche models used in the film

The Porsche 928 was seen several times throughout the movie as well as on marketing posters and stills. One model was a simple shell car with no engine or transmission installed. It was used in the scene where the car plunged into the lake.
Another model was purchased for all the promotional shots, posters, and stills. A 1978 Porsche 928 5-speed model had one scene in the film where Lana, the prostitute, had knocked the car out of gear, which is what led to it going into the lake.
Then there were two models that were known as the hero cars of the film. One was a 1981 automatic, and the other was a 1979 5-speed manual. Both took on the driving and chase scenes in the movie. The manual version was the one Cruise learned to drive stick in.

When the film came out in the early 80s, one particular Porsche dealer sold quite a few models. Autoblog even calls the 928 model a "hometown hero" in the Chicago area for that time period. So, the film really was a giant commercial for the Porsche brand.
The film today is about to come up on its 35th anniversary of its release, which means more interest in the car is likely to rise. The front-engined, oval-shaped exotic car may be sought after on the used vehicle market.
Not long ago, the 1979 5-speed version sold at an auction for 1.9 million dollars. It had the same gold paint used for the film, and it was still in great condition. The car even had signatures from some of the movie's cast members, according to
