When it comes to classic cars, a 2007 model might not be the first vehicle that springs to mind, but the 2007 Mercedes SLK has all the hallmarks of a future classic.
The SLK-Class was first released by
Mercedes-Benz
in 1996, with the 2007 model representative of the car's second generation.
It was a two-seat roadster with a retractable hardtop, and three variants (the SLK280, SLK350, and SLK55 AMG) were available for drivers to choose from. The car sold well and was praised for its stylish design, sharp handling, and comfortable ride.
And despite the SLK-Class being discontinued in 2020, the 2007 model is widely considered one of the
best hard-top convertibles
of all time.

As explained by

, the 2007 Mercedes SLK was bulkier and (thanks to its power-operated convertible hardtop) more complex than its predecessors.
It was beautiful though. The coupe-like exterior styling was based on the sporty Mercedes' SLR McLaren, and the long hood gave the car an elegance befitting a classic convertible. Inside, Mercedes used soft-touch material for much of the upholstery, with high-quality plastics filling in the gaps.
Both the driver and passenger seats were praised for their comfort, and with the hood up, occupants were well-insulated from the noise outside. In fact, based on comfort and relative quietness, the 2007 Mercedes SLK might be one of the best all-weather convertibles ever made.

As noted above, drivers could choose from three versions of the 2007 model, depending on how much power they wanted. The SLK280 came with a 3.0-liter V6 engine, while the more popular SLK350 had a 3.5-liter V6, and could go from 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds.
The third and final option was the Mercedes SLK55 AMG. Boasting a 5.4-liter V8 engine, this beast had 355 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque, and could do 0-60 in just 5.1 seconds. Engine power aside, the 2007 Mercedes SLK incorporated a stiff body structure, fine-tuned suspension, and phenomenal brakes—all the ingredients you need for a classic roadster.
Looking back, 15 years after the 2007 model was first released, it's easy to see why it sold so well, and why models in good condition are still in such high demand.
While the contemporary BMW Z4 or Porsche Boxster have marginally better handling, the 2007 Mercedes-Benz SLK is a far better choice for anyone who values comfort and curb appeal.
