According to details provided by Automotive News
, Mercedes is in hot water in Germany. It seems that the company installed some devices that fooled testing machines into thinking that the Mercedes models in question, the GLK and GLC crossovers, released less emissions than they actually do. VZBZ, Germany’s largest consumer protection group, is accusing Mercedes of deceiving customers into purchasing vehicles they believed were more eco-friendly than they actually are.
Who will win the lawsuit?
If VZBZ wins this class-action-style lawsuit, it will set a precedent that will actually empower Mercedes owners and would assist them in gaining compensation for the software that VZBZ claims was used to trick emissions tests.
So far, the only model years eligible are the 2018 GLK and GLC crossovers, but that could affect 50,000 GLC and GLK models in Germany. Unfortunately for drivers, other companies have been brought to trial over similar claims nearly 25,000 times, and 95% of these trials have been tossed out.

Emissions scandals are anything but new
