Mazda hasn't produced a
new car
in the US for the past ten years, but that's changed recently. The Japanese automaker, which was recently recommended by Consumer Reports, opened a new plant and has begun manufacturing. There's even a new SUV entering the Mazda line-up, which has some critics very excited.

Mazda is opening a new plant in the U.S.

The last Mazda vehicle to be produced in the U.S. was a joint venture with Ford, and it was located in Flat Rock, Michigan. Mazda is back and is now teaming up with Toyota to deliver bigger and better vehicles.
The new plant is called “Mazda Toyota Manufacturing”, and is located in Huntsville, Alabama. According to
RoadShow
, the plant has $2.3 billion invested into it, and over 4,000 workers to help build the new line-up.

Which vehicles will be produced here?

While it's not clear what range of vehicles will be produced at the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing plant, we know that both Toyota and Mazda will both be producing some vehicles there.
Mazda is making some huge changes, however, the biggest of which is that the CX-9 is being retired. Instead, it will be replaced by the CX-90, which is bigger, tougher, and will have more of a premium feel to it.
Another new SUV Mazda will be producing is the CX-70. It's unclear if it will be produced at the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing plant, but if things go well, there's a possibility that it could.
What we do know for certain is that the CX-50 will definitely be produced here in America. For those who fear that it will replace the beloved CX-5, that's not currently on the table. Mazda recognizes that not everyone wants huge SUVs, and the CX-5 remains the perfect crossover for those who want an SUV that can move more like a car.
Whether Mazda will begin producing trucks or sedans at the North American plant remains to be seen. Most automakers are moving away from sedans, at least for the moment, as consumers tend to want bigger vehicles. As for the trucks, we'll just have to wait and see.

The 2023 CX-50 is Mazda's first rugged SUV

The 2023 CX-50 SUV was the first to come off the manufacturing line on January 26, 2022. This is a new venture for Mazda, as it recognizes that Americans are more interested in SUVs that look tough and can go off-road.
The new CX-50 is equipped with a 2.5-liter inline-four or 2.5-liter turbo-four engine. Each is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, though, Mazda is currently working on a hybrid powertrain and some
new technology
which will be revealed at a later date.
Mazda has chosen to go with an AWD drive system for the CX-50. To give the CX-50 more of an off-road vibe, Mazda has created a new drive mode selector called the Mi-Drive. This offers modes such as driving off-road, various element modes, and a towing mode.
While we don't have an exact date for when you can purchase the new CX-50, it's expected to hit dealership floors sometime this spring. There is no price for the CX-50 at this time.
