background
While rivals Ferrari and Lamborghini get most of the attention when it comes to sports cars, Maserati just sent a bold statement that the two aren't the only Italian
luxury car
companies in town. We are of course talking about the long-awaited Maserati MC20.
The brand new Maserati MC20 is a masterclass of both engineering and style. While these speed demons will certainly have high
insurance rates
, don't let that stop you from checking out this impressive vehicle.

Background of the Maserati MC20

While most car companies are trying to pivot towards having an EV lineup, Maserati is doing the same while also trying to get back into racing. At least that's the idea behind the Maserati MC20. The MC20 is in its first generation and only comes in one trim, but many car journalists expect there to be an all-electric trim and racing trim in the near future.
The Maserati MC20 was initially scheduled to debut in May 2020, but like with every other carmaker, covid and supply chain issues put the MC20 on hold. Two years later, the wait is over.
Maserati
proudly announced the unveiling of the priced MC20 very recently.

What are the specs of the Maserati MC20?

The Maserati MC20 has generated a lot of hype, and for good reason. Under the hood, you'll find a newly designed twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine. The engine has been named "Netuno," which is Italian for Neptune (a nod to the company's trident logo).
The Netuno is the first Maserati-made engine in about 20 years, and it apparently outperforms the competition. This V6 can produce a shocking 621 hp, making it more power-dense than any current McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari, or Porsche.
Like other modern supercars, the Maserati MC20 is full of carbon components, giving it a lighter weight. The results are impressive, as it has a 0-60 mph time of 3.1 seconds and can complete a quarter-mile in 11 seconds.
As for the cosmetics, the MC20 lives up to the high expectations of any Maserati-branded vehicle. The doors open butterfly-style, showcasing black leather seats with dark blue accents. Maserati is keeping with the minimalist trend found in many luxury cars by keeping most controls within the infotainment screen.
Like any speed demon, you won't see great gas mileage with the Maserati MC20. It is only rated at 15 mpg city and 25 mpg highway. Hopefully, the all-electric version of the MC20 will arrive soon.

Buying one of these speed demons

We hope you're not too excited about the Maserati MC20, because buying one will be quite difficult. While Maserati hasn't officially announced how many were made, they have confirmed that all MC20s destined for the U.S. market have already been bought.
If you could find an owner who is willing to sell, price may also be an obstacle. The Maserati MC20 retailed at $215,995. After the markup, though, don't be surprised if you need to drop over a quarter million to drive one of these vehicles.
