Those familiar with
luxury cars
probably know Maserati for its elegant grand touring models. For the 2022 model year, the automaker released its first true sports car:
the Maserati MC20.
It's a mid-engine vehicle with a twin-turbo V6, butterfly doors, and aggressive styling to set it apart from its siblings.
Only the coupe version of the Maserati MC20 has been released, but the automaker already promised a convertible body style and an electric model.
MotorAuthority
already has some spy shots of the convertible version in testing. What will it add to the MC20 experience?

The Maserati MC20 convertible looks promising

From the pictures, it seems like the MC20 convertible will have a retractable hard-top. It should be made from a mix of composite and carbon fiber materials, just like the rest of the body. It could also be a removable panel, but it's hard to tell under the car wrap.
Removable tops are slightly more inconvenient, but one could improve the car's speed when it's not in use. As it stands already, the MC20 coupe can reach 60 mph in just under three seconds. Its engine has 621 horsepower on tap, and its top speed is reportedly 202 mph.
The twin-turbo engine, modeled after a Formula 1 racecar, also comes paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The coupe only has RWD, though you'll be able to get power sent to all four wheels on the electric version.
The Maserati MC20's interior is definitely simplistic and driver-focused, but it's still luxurious. Blue contrast stitching is woven into the sporty black leather seats, and the entire cabin is trimmed with carbon fiber. In addition to the ignition button, a launch control button can be found next to the steering wheel.
The center stack only has the most essential controls, with a 10-inch touchscreen tucked under the air vents. A second 10-inch display serves as the digital gauge cluster. Convenience and safety tech options are limited, but all models receive a digital rearview mirror.

How much will the Maserati MC20 convertible cost?

MORE: Remembering the Legendary Maserati Biturbo
A Maserati MC20 starts at $212,000 without any extra features or accessories. These might include things like the carbon fiber exterior package, which adds more carbon fiber elements to the main body.
You can also option the car with a few safety features, such as blind-spot monitoring. Judging from the price points of its rivals, the Maserati MC20 convertible body style could cost around $250,000.

Where this car fits into the luxury supercar space

The Maserati MC20 convertible is set to compete with the likes of the Ferrari F8 Tributo. The F8 Tributo also has a mid-engine twin-turbo engine, but this one has nearly 100 more ponies at its disposal.  Still, the Ferrari F8 Tributo is the more unattainable option of the two, priced at around $280,000.
The mid-engine McLaren GT has as much power as the Maserati MC20, with a nearly identical price point. It definitely has the most dynamic styling of the three, but it's just a hair faster than the MC20.
Even among these capable competitors, the Maserati MC20 is definitely a solid first entry into the world of luxury sports cars.
