As
hypercars
and megacars have taken over the scene, many have forgotten about the supercars that paved their way. The
Lamborghini
Sesto Elemento debuted over a decade ago, but it was revolutionary and futuristic for the time.

What’s in a name?

The Sesto Elemento in this Lamborghini’s name means the “sixth element.” So what, exactly, was the sixth element? It was glorious carbon fiber.
Nowadays, many hypercars, megacars, and supercars are built with carbon fiber to reduce curb weight. But when the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento debuted at the 2010 Paris Auto Show using carbon fiber, it was absolutely astounding given that the material was so new.
This car also paved the way in terms of the expensive but worthwhile use of carbon fiber on many Lamborghinis today.
Weighing in at 2,202 pounds, the vehicle was one of the most lightweight vehicles out there. The all-wheel drive coupe has a 5.2-liter V10 engine and a six-speed E-gear semi-automatic transmission. The vehicle gets 570 hp and 539 lb-ft of torque.
It can go 0 to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds, so it's still quicker than the newer Lamborghini Sián, which gets 819 hp, and the 2016 Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce.
This shows that even though a high horsepower is appealing and nothing to scoff about, a reduced weight will beat higher horsepower.

Design and functionality of the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento

The sharp angles mixed with the triangular and hexagonal elements on this magnificent beast of a coupe combine aesthetics with functionality in its design.
There’s a large intake beneath the fender that allows air to move along the slits of the front bonnet. The airflow then moves from the roof to the hexagon-shaped intakes above the engine.
The slits on the dome of the vehicle also match the hexagon shape and move the air to the rear wing, which then comes out of the two exhaust pipes that were made of the revolutionary glass-ceramic material PyroSic.
While most of the vehicle is made of exposed carbon fiber, there are some aluminum elements used on the rear subframe. The Sesto Elemento has a fairly bare dashboard and foam padding is stuck to the cabin’s firewall and floors with traditional seats being replaced.

Are you sold on the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento?

Although the Sesto Elemento has cars that are far faster and more powerful than it today, it’s still not street-legal and is solely made for the track.
The Sesto Elemento had a limited production of only 20 units, with each one coming in at over $2 million a pop. So despite its age, it has only appreciated in value due to its rarity.
In 2017, one Lamborghini with only 118 miles on it was put up for sale for over $4.5 million on the popular site Craigslist. While it might not seem like the best place to sell a car, it further proves that it did in fact appreciate and became a collectible car.
