The
Lincoln
car company is primarily known for two things: luxury and iconic car commercials starring Matthew McConaughey. While this Ford subsidiary has a mostly positive reputation, it is making huge investments to build up its tech.
Take the new 2022 Lincoln Navigator. Despite being mid-generation, Lincoln decided it was time to make the Navigator more high-tech than ever before.

History of the Lincoln Navigator

Lincoln is often considered as Ford's Cadillac. After seeing the growing demand for full-size SUVs, Lincoln decided it was time to have a luxury full-size SUV of their own. From that idea, the Lincoln Navigator was born. The car first rolled off assembly lines in 1997.
The Navigator was a smash hit, and Lincoln generated more sales than rival Cadillac. That was until Cadillac released their own full-size SUV in the Escalade. Nonetheless, the Navigator would remain in production to this day.
Today, the Lincoln Navigator is in its fourth generation. Despite being nearly 25 years old, the basic principle of the Navigator remains the same—serving as the luxury option to the Ford Explorer.

What are the Specs of the 2022 Lincoln Navigator?

The 2022 Lincoln Navigator is available in 5 different trims, but only has one engine and transmission option. Unlike most of its competitors, the Lincoln Navigator carries a smaller 3.5-liter V6 engine, per
Car and Driver
. However, this smaller engine is turbocharged, allowing it to produce an impressive 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque.
But the real innovation on the new 2022 Lincoln Navigator is the updated infotainment system. The screen size was increased to 13.2 inches versus the 10.1-inch screen on prior year-end models. Along with the new screen came a new operating system in the Sync 4.
Should you choose to upgrade to the optional 28 speaker sound system, the Sync 4 will balance the audio output for a truly immersive experience. Back seat passengers will have a screen of their own that connects to Amazon Fire TV. Should the driver of a Lincoln Navigator get overwhelmed with all the screens, they can simply activate their chair's massage feature to relax.

How it compares to other vehicles in its class

It's no secret that Lincoln is trying to remain competitive with historic rival Cadillac. But the Escalade and the Navigator aren't the only full-size luxury SUVs on the market. Jeep has just released their Grand Wagoneer to also gain a foothold in the full-size luxury SUV market.
However, many car critics would argue that the Lincoln Navigator reigns supreme in terms of interior quality. The plush, comfy seats and impressive sound system will make any passenger forget that they are stuck in traffic. The Navigator's comfort factor combined with the new Sync 4 will make it difficult for competitors to keep up.
