The 2023
Honda Civic Type R
is due for launch in the fall, and while
Honda
is holding back some specific information on this sporty hatchback, closer first looks have been allowed. This includes a look at the exterior, a quick peek under the hood, some interior specs, and what colors the 2023 Honda Civic Type R will be available in.
Jerry
is here to share all the information we know so far.

The Honda Civic Type R’s toned-down exterior

While we’re not meant to judge a book by its cover, it’s hard not to judge a car by its exterior. And the Honda Civic Type R’s been judged since its inception.
It’s either loved for its sporty race car look or panned for the same reason. The new 2023 Honda Civic Type R is a toned-down version of its earlier iterations, but it does keep its iconic wing on the back.
The 2023 Honda Civic Type R prototype, while breaking records at circuits like the Suzuka, has one of the most colorful custom paint jobs that defy the “toned down” look. However, this dizzying custom paint job won’t be available when the Civic Type R goes on sale. As of now, the five available colors include:
  • Historic Championship White
  • Rallye Red
  • Boost Blue
  • Crystal Black Pearl
  • Sonic Gray Pearl
Other exterior features include a large diamond grill, flared fenders over smaller wheels with wider tires, specifically “19-inch rollers,” according to
Car and Driver
In addition, the exterior is built for aerodynamics and performance, with three round exhaust tips in the center rear of the vehicle, exclusive wider rear doors, side sills, and a rear spoiler.

What’s known under the hood of the Honda Civic Type R

There are a lot of unknowns right now as Honda holds onto some of its surprises for the fall. Horsepower, torque, mileage, chassis, and price are still Honda secrets.
However, marketing-wise, Honda teases that this 2023 Honda Civic Type R is expected to be the most powerful yet. Since the last, overseas at least, horsepower was 316, this leads to an expectation and anticipation of horsepower above 316.
What we do know is that it has a 2.0-liter engine and a 6-speed traditional manual-only transmission. There’s also a rev-matching system. But the rest will have to be speculated about until released this fall.

The interior racing styles of the Honda Civic Type R

Do you like bright red and black? We hope so because that’s what you get so far with the Honda Civic Type R. Faux red suede seats up front with matching red carpeting, while in the back, black with red trim is offered.
There’s a 9.0-inch touch screen capable of hooking up wirelessly to your Apple or Android device, a dual-zone climate control, and a +R button
The + R button allows the gauge cluster to change for a more “race car style” tachometer that will display the: rpm, rev indicator lights, and gear positioning.
The car has a stopwatch and can share videos for exclusive Honda Civic Type R racing fun.

Don’t race yourself out of good car insurance

Racecar-inspired vehicles like the 2023 Honda Civic Type R can be great fun. However, your
car insurance
won’t cover you if you were street racing (illegal) or if you get into an accident while racing, even legally on a track. So be safe and careful and go over your car insurance, especially if you’re planning to get a new car.
