Lamborghini Urus Pearl: Hot or Not?

The Lamborghini Urus is one ostentatious SUV. What does adding on the Pearl Capsule accomplish?

background
Lamborghini
has never been known for its reticence. Bold colors and shapes have defined the brand ever since annoyed Ferrari owner Ferruccio Lamborghini got into the automaking business in 1963.
The luxury brand’s SUV offering, the Urus, is no exception to this loud aesthetic. And tacking on the Pearl Capsule package takes the volume up a few notches. But do these additions improve the look?

What’s so great about the Urus anyway?

The Lamborghini Urus made its debut in the U.S. in 2018 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. A true luxury SUV, its first generation’s starting price was just above $200,000. Fast forward a few years and the 2022 base price is a cool $225,000. Luckily, for nearly a quarter of a million dollars, you get plenty of bang for your buck.
Anything with “Lamborghini” appended to it is bound to be fast, and the Urus is no exception. Topping out at about 190 mph and accelerating from 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds, the car is one of the quickest luxury SUVs on the market right now, as
Car and Driver
notes.
Its twin-turbo V8 engine generates 641 hp, which is dangerously close to the typical 700+ hp of a NASCAR engine. Its exterior is typified by the silky angularity that defines a Lambo, and flipping up the cover over the start button might just earn you your pilot’s license.

The Pearl Capsule

The Lamborghini Urus at base is already a pretty impressive aesthetic accomplishment. But Lamborghini is betting that anyone who would drop this kind of cash on a car might just be willing to tack on a paltry $21,000 extra to overachieve. The Pearl Capsule is this overachievement.
The Pearl Capsule spruces up the paint and the wheels. Three colors are offered, and they are exactly what you would expect: Arancio Borealis (bright orange,) Verde Mantis (bright green,) and Giallo Inti (bright yellow.)
The Urus, freshly decked out in a new eye-catching color, is then treated to some glossy black accents. The lower bumpers, mirrors, and roof are all darkened, and once the 23-inch wheels (also black) are installed, the dramatic contrast between the Arancio Borealis and its borders would put Caravaggio to shame.

Clutch those pearls

For another $3,000, you could opt instead for the inverse of the Pearl, the Graphite Capsule, which would envelop your Urus in dark matte and accent the trim with bright colors. It’s gorgeous, but would this really be an appropriate use of money for a Lamborghini SUV? If you’re meeting friends in the Hamptons, you might as well be easy to spot from afar. Try on the Pearl.
