LA Rams' Robert Woods’ Mercedes SUV Isn’t Easy to Maintain

Robert Woods has made a nice chunk of change the NFL. This has allowed him to make flashy purchases, like his Mercedes SUV.

The Superbowl is a tidal wave of sponsorships every year. Car commercials, on-field billboards, half-time partners—it can be overwhelming if you take a moment to think about it. But some team sponsors are in it for the long game. Case in point: Castrol, the synthetic oil brand.
The company teamed up with the LA Rams back in April 2021 to help the team offset their carbon footprint throughout the football season. Little did they know the team would wind up competing for the Vince Lombardi trophy!
As part of the partnership, Castrol had Robert Woods, the Rams’ wide receiver, pop the hood of his Mercedes AMG G36 and get a maintenance lesson from famous car enthusiast Courtney Hansen. It clearly didn’t go as planned.

Why is Robert Woods’ Mercedes hard to take care of?

Like a lot of car owners, Robert Woods leaves nearly all his vehicle maintenance to his
auto mechanic
. In the promo video he should with Courtney Hansen for Castrol and
the Rams
, he admits he’s only lifted the hood of his AMG G36 once before.
Once he and Hansen take a look underneath, the reason for Woods’ “hands-off” approach is clear. Hansen, who really knows her way around an engine, can’t even find the luxury SUV’s oil dipstick!
To save the clip, she quickly explains that “fancy” vehicles like Woods’ Mercedes need to be brought in to the dealer or a mechanic to have their fluids checked. She points out where to check and fill washer fluid, but encourages Woods to trust a pro to manage everything else.

The Mercedes AMG G36

Robert Woods knows how to spend a football player’s salary. The SUV he shows off in the video has a $160,000 starting price, but
Car and Driver
says an AMG G36 usually goes for more than that, thanks to the multitude of customization options.
You might assume the AMG emblem accounts for the lofty price tag, but Mercedes backs up the six-figure expense with top-tier power, performance, and swagger. The luxury SUV’s 4.0-liter
V8 engine
offers 577 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.
Most G36 owners are likely looking for class rather than off-road capability, but the AMG Trail package gives you access to the tires, and underbody protection you need to go exploring should you choose to do so.
