Many
car brands
love to promote their wares at auto shows. That's been more difficult recently, as
COVID-19 has ruined quite a few such events
.
Things may be turning around for 2022, though, as the Tokyo Auto Salon prepares to get underway. Not familiar with this Japanese car show? Read on to learn more about this attention-grabbing event.
The Tokyo Auto Salon has been attracting car enthusiasts from all over the world for decades.

What's the history of the Tokyo Auto Salon?

The Tokyo Auto Salon has been around in one form or another for quite some time. It takes place every year (barring COVID, of course) in the halls of Makuhari Messe. If you're wondering what sort of vibe the show inspires,
Tokyo Cheapo
has your answer: "Think MTV's ‘Pimp My Ride,’ but more luxurious."
The show had its origins decades ago and has been attracting car enthusiasts from all over the world for nearly as long. Last year, for example, Brad Lord of
Speedhunters
described his decades-long obsession with the show, which has been known to inspire him to travel all the way from New Zealand to see the exotic cars on display.
The modified JDM vehicles on exhibit at the Tokyo Auto Salon inspire the imaginations of many car fans and make for an unforgettable experience, whether or not you're a true car expert.

The Tokyo Auto Salon is kind of a big deal

Unsurprisingly, car fans are ecstatic that the Tokyo Auto Salon will be back for 2022, continuing a trend of a
return to in-person trade shows
that has been in place since at least last fall.
Why all the excitement about this auto show? Basically, car enthusiasts can count on seeing all sorts of cars here that they'll likely never have a chance to see anywhere else.
Not only that, but Japanese automakers reveal some of their most surprising new offerings at the show, so there's a good chance that if you attend, you'll be among the first in the world to see some of the latest and greatest vehicles being added to manufacturers' lineups.

Word from Tokyo Cheapo is that this year's Tokyo Auto Salon will be opening in mid-January. This will be great news to car fans who missed out on the 2021 show due to COVID and are eager to get back to checking out all the pimped-out vehicles.
The show will run from the 14th through the 16th of the month, so your chance to see it will be pretty limited, especially since the first day is only open to industry and the media.
If you want to try to attend on Saturday or Sunday, make sure to snag your tickets in advance. There will be no same-day ticket sales for this event. Tickets cost $25.94 per person.
