There are some brands that are known for their SUVs, and some that are not.
Hyundai
and Nissan are two that are not well-known for that breed of car.
This is a shame because they are making serious investments in their cars. Hyundai has spent years improving the brand, and Nissan has been generating solid cars, which is always good for getting you cheap
insurance
.
This means it is only fair to take a look at their nicer SUVs and compare them. Consumer Reports did, and you may be surprised what they found.

Hyundai Kona vs Nissan Rogue utility

Consumer Reports
started their comparison by noting that both cars seat two in front and three in back. They are both four-door style cars that come in several trims.
The access to the Nissan Rogue is great, and they gave the trunk and cargo area a four out of five. The Hyundai Kona did not fair as well, with the 22.5 cubic feet of the cargo area getting one out of five. Consumer Reports found it slightly harder to get into the front and rear of the Kona.
If you want to tow something, you want the Nissan Rogue because it can pull up to 1,350 pounds. The Kona doesn't have any towing capacity, and the Rogue is just built to haul more.
The Rogue is longer, at 183 inches, and the Kona has a shorter turn radius. Neither are exactly nimble though. The Kona's turn radius is 36 feet to the Rogue's 37 feet.

Hyundai Kona vs. Nissan Rogue engines and power

The Nissan Rogue has only one engine for all its trims, and it is a 1.5 liter three turbo. This gives it 201 horsepower. Combined with the continuously variable transmission, it has the ability to accelerate from zero to 60 in 8.7 seconds.
The Hyundai Kona, on the other hand, has many engine options, including a 1.6- liter four turbo, two-liter four turbo, two-liter four-cylinder, and electric.
They also have many transmissions including a seven-speed sequential, six-speed automatic, one-speed direct, and eight-speed consequential.
This means that the amount of horsepower your Kona gets depends on the trim. That horsepower ranges from 147 for the four-cylinder to 276 for the two-liter four turbo.
As far as handling goes, Consumer Reports gives the Rogue a three out of five for its emergency handling and a four out of five for braking. The Kona does better with both of these, but it takes 11.1 seconds to get from zero to 60.
Both cars come with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options. It doesn't improve the ride of either, which Consumer Reports gives as three out of five for both.

Which is safer?

Most people would put safety first, and Consumer Reports found that the Nissan Rogue got four stars for overall crash safety from the NHTSA. The Hyundai got five stars in everything but rollover safety.
The Nissan Rogue's safety restraints include side airbags on the front and rear standard, and head protection airbag is standard with rollover. The Hyundai Kona has front airbags and head protection airbags as a standard feature.
The Kona comes out ahead with standard safety features such as lane keep assist and lane centering assist. These are optional on the Rogue.
These safety features may be why Consumer Reports recommends the 2022 Hyundai Kona over the 2022 Nissan Rogue. They gave the Kona an overall score of 66, while they gave the Nissan Rogue an overall score of 63.
