Honda
is said to discontinue Insight and instead release the
Honda Civic hybrid
in the United States market. The Insight is less or more like the Civic, except for the name. It is taking a bow as Honda focuses on greater efficiency and clean energy.
The automaker has not released the specs of the U.S. model. However, it is expected to be like the European specs released a while back.
Jerry
has all the details about the Honda Civic hybrid.

Honda Civic Hybrid engine and performance expectations

Based on the
European Honda Civic Hybrid
, the U.S. model is expected to have similar engine specs as the current Insight. The current models run on a gas engine and two electric motors. However,
Car and Driver
explains that the Euro Civic model has a larger 2.0-liter inline-four engine.
The new engine will give the Civic Hybrid 181 horsepower instead of the 152 hp produced by the current Insight hybrid. This engine power is pretty much the same as the Accord Hybrid, which has the same engine capacity and makes 212 horsepower.
The newer model may have a slightly lower EPA combined rating on fuel economy. The Euro Civic has a combined EPA of 50 mpg, while the Insight stands at 52 mpg. However, it is still a pretty efficient model.

The Honda Civic Hybrid may come in just the hatchback style

A while back, Honda released a statement stating that the next Honda Civic Hybrid for the European market will only be available in a hatchback style.
As
Moto1.com
explains, the reason for releasing the model in one style is that the automaker plans to use the model as a cheaper entry point for the Civic Type R.
Honda has not announced that it will also be doing the same with the U.S. model. However, the new Civic hybrid will likely be an entry model for other premium models.
According to the Euro Civic Hybrid images released, the model will probably have a raised rear, dual exhaust, bolder body lines, and a smaller front grille.
The new Euro model is toned down to give it a cleaner look. It does not have fake vents and has fewer slashes.

What will be the Honda Civic Hybrid's cabin features?

Like it has with the Euro model, Honda may have several trims in the U.S. According to
Auto Express
, the Euro version has three trims: Elegance, Sport, and Advance. The difference will be in the convenience features.
A 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system will be standard. However, the range-topping Advance trim may have a 10.2-inch display.
These trims will also come with a new version of Honda SENSING. This advanced safety feature includes a 100-degree front wide-view camera, lane keep assist, and recognition technology, among other features.
