While everyone feels the impact of inflation, it’s a particularly tough time right now for
car owners
, or anyone who relies on a car for transportation. At a time when many countries are tightening restrictions related to fossil fuels and pollution concerns, the Biden administration is actually loosening certain ethanol regulations in the wake of rising gas prices

What is E15 gasoline and why has it been banned before?

E15 gasoline, or gasoline blended with 15% ethanol, is banned throughout most of the U.S. because of of air pollution concerns. According to a story from
Yahoo Finance
, the Environmental Protection Agency is planning to release a national emergency waiver that would allow the sale of E15 gasoline from June 1 to Sepember 15 of 2022.
On average, E15 gas is 10 cents per gallon cheaper to produce than the standard E10 gas which is only 10% ethanol.
The White House
said in a press release that allowing the sale of E15 gas will hopefully not only lower fuel prices but also reduce dependency on foreign fuels.

Details of the emergency waiver

If you’ve fueled up recently, you’ve definitely felt the sting of higher gas prices, but what caused the spike in cost?
As a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the U.S. banned imports of oil and natural gas from Russia as of March 8. The emergency waiver will help increase supply of fuel, especially during the summer months when Americans will be eager to travel and visit loved ones.
While some environmentalists may be concerned about the reintroduction of E15 gas to pumps across the nation, the EPA is working to monitor air quality throughout the summer and ensure that there are no significant negative impacts. Some states are even in discussion to introduce E15 gas year-round to reduce dependency on foreign fuels.
President Biden also worked with the International Energy Agency to authorize a release of 240 million barrels of oil from petroleum reserves around the world.

The future of fuel

Many consumers are trying to move away from then dependence on fossil fuels altogether, but the infrastructure to support that lifestyle is still inaccessible to many parts of the country.
While
electric cars
have grown exponentially in popularity over the last few years, most Americans still rely on gasoline to fuel up their cars, which until recently was still largely affordable.
The current administration is making moves to make gas more affordable and accessible for all Americans, but this push is happening in tandem with other steps to move away from fossil fuels and towards using more clean energy.
