background
FordDirect’s CEO, Matt VanDyke, left his prestigious role as the leader of Ford’s premier pre-owned vehicle directory. It was a big announcement, as
Ford
had to find another CEO candidate to take over its booming pre-owned vehicle operations. While Ford is certain to miss VanDyke, his new role is a compelling one.

Why Did FordDirect’s CEO leave?

Auto Recent
highlights that Matt VanDyke has stepped down from his position as CEO of FordDirect to become president of ShiftDigital, an online commerce and digital marketing company. It’s a line of work that will suit him well, considering Matt VanDyke helped Ford market the Bronco and the 2021 F-150.
While FordDirect’s CEO is calling it quits after only a year in the position, he’s been with Ford for quite a while. VanDyke held various roles for the past 14 years, but his most notable position was working as Ford’s director of promotion.
In this role, VanDyke helped improve and shape Ford’s customer experience on multiple levels, including digital customer service layouts, online shopping experiences, and dealership protocols.

Who does Ford plan to hire to replace Matt VanDyke?

Detroit Free Press
reports that Dean Stoneley, former general manager of Ford North America Truck, has become the CEO of FordDirect. Stoneley has occupied the new role since June 27, 2022, and was formerly the President of Ford Canada.
Stoneley notably helped direct the Oakville Assembly Complex, one of Ford’s largest electric battery assembly plants. Stoneley has also worked for Ford in crucial leadership roles in Southern Africa and Asia-Pacific markets as well.

Other changes are in store for Ford

Ford has been cracking down on
dealership markups
, especially on the Ford F-150 Lightning, and is focused on helping dealers transition from a mostly gas-powered lineup to all-electric over the coming decade.
Another change? Ford plans to focus on direct-to-consumer sales, with a balance between both dealerships and online purchasing options. Though dealerships are a crucial part of Ford’s brand image and sales revenue, dealerships aren’t always the most comfortable experience for customers.
