Musk doesn’t take the original Roadster out of the road these days, but he did launch it into outer space. In February of 2018, the first generation Roadster was loaded into the SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket and deployed into the earth’s orbit, where it’s still floating around today.

Naturally, Musk also owns a prototype of the highly-anticipated Cybertruck, months before the real thing comes to market.

As far as his daily drivers go, Musk says that the Model X SUV is the car he uses when driving with his children, while the Model S is the car he takes out the most on his own.

A few gas-powered cars also made the cut for Elon Musk

Electric cars may be his bread and butter, but the Tesla CEO also owns quite a few gas-powered sports cars including the 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo, 2006 Hamann BMW M5, and a 1997 McLaren F1.

Musk has admitted to being partial to the Porsche 911, so it’s not surprising to see one in his collection. He also seems to be a fan of BMW, owning both the more modern 2006 Hamann BMW M5 as well as a 1978 BMW 320i. The 320i was actually Musk’s first car, but it was sadly crashed by an intern at this first company.

His fondness of the McLaren F1 has also been well-documented, as he actually received it with a full CNN camera crew in tow. At the time, Musk was a rising young entrepreneur, and the McLaren F1 was the fastest production car in the world.

Vintage, collector cars, and more

You may remember the 1976 Lotus Esprit from the 1977 James Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me. Musk remembers it just as well, which is why he snatched the actual movie car up at an auction back in 2013 for a bid of nearly $1 million.

Another surprising addition to his collection is a real 1920 Ford Model T. The Model T is widely regarded as the car that made automotive ownership accessible to most Americans and changed the landscape of the country as we know it. It was gifted to Musk by a friend.
