Don’t Expect Huge 4th of July Deals at Car Dealerships

Ready for some underwhelming Independence Day car deals? That’s the unfortunate reality this year.

The Fourth of July: fireworks, cookouts and…OK discounts? Historically,
car dealerships
have run pretty decent sales on their inventory during the Independence Day holiday in the U.S. But as
Consumer Reports
writes, the Independence Day deals in place at car dealerships this year aren't as great as they have been in previous years.

Why aren't 4th of July car sales that great this year?

With chip shortages, inflation affecting material costs as well as tight inventory to contend with, many deals aren't the "too good to be true" type automakers and dealerships might have touted in years past.
But per the publication, you can still find some pretty OK deals nationally. These vehicles have nationwide incentives that are good through July 5, 2022, while some vehicles might have regional deals in addition to the national discounts.

The 2022 Chevrolet Equinox is seeing the best discount on CR's list at 9% off sticker price. The Equinox starts at $26,050 and goes up to $32,850 depending on trim level. If you were to opt for the highest trim, you'd see a potential savings of nearly $3,000.
Next on the list is the 2022 Chevrolet Blazer, which offers 8% off sticker price. The Blazer retails for between $33,400 and $44,000 depending on what trim level you opt for. That's a savings of up to $3,500 for the highest trim model.
Next up is the 2022 Ram 1500, which is being offered at an 8% discount for the holiday. The Ram 1500 starts at $36,500 and can be optioned-up to a whopping $78,790, which means a potential savings of around $6,300 before dealer fees for the decked-out version.
The 2022 GMC Acadia will see a 7% discount from its $34,800-$48,600 price range, which means you'll save up to approximately $3,400 at the dealership if you buy before July 5.
The 2022 Chevrolet Traverse, which retails for $33,700-$53,400, also boasts a 7% discount. That means until July 5, you could see a potential savings of around $3,700 off the top-tier price.
The first and only offer on a Ford vehicle on the list is a 7% discount for the 2022 Ford Edge. Retailing for between $37,410-$46,210, you can save up to approximately $3,200 on the highest-end trim level.
Next up is the 2022 Chrysler 300, which offers a 6% discount through the holiday. With prices ranging from $31,770 to $42,155, you can get up to around $2,500 off on a new model.
The only "luxury" model on this list is the
2022 Cadillac XT5
, which is eligible for 6% off MSRP. Retailing for between $43,995 and $55,895, you can score up to $3,350 off this SUV.
An odd addition to this list is a 5% discount for the 2022 Toyota Prius Prime, which CR notes is unusual due to the soaring demand for fuel-efficient vehicles. The Prius Prime retails for between $28,670 and $34,450, meaning you could get up to approximately $1,700 off.
Last on the list is the 2022 Dodge Charger, which gets a 5% discount off its MSRP of $32,500-$75,900. That means you could see a discount of up to approximately $3,800 on the top-tier model.
Though you might be better off waiting on this one; the Dodge Charger as we know it is going to be phased out in a few years, meaning you'll either see deeper discounts as the automaker tries to move inventory.

Wait, that's it?

Yeah, it's a little underwhelming. Again, CR notes that supply chain issues and low inventory have made buying a new vehicle pretty painful for the average consumer. If you're hurting for a new vehicle, these deals are your best bet for a little while.
But if you're not desperate, your best bet is to hold off and hope that automakers can come up with something a little more enticing.

Save money elsewhere

If you are hellbent on buying a new car, you can still stand to save a little more on your car insurance. Thankfully, you're in the right place.
