Don’t Buy a 2022 Ford Escape Without Considering the New Hyundai Tucson

The 2022 Ford Escape is a popular choice among SUVs, but if you’re considering buying one, you might want to wait. The Hyundai Tucson, though less popular, was given a glowing review by Consumer Reports, and is even cheaper than the Escape.

Ford is one of the biggest automakers in the world, but it has some tough competition from automakers like
Hyundai
. This is especially true in the SUV segment, as while the Ford Escape is a good SUV, Hyundai offers a great option as well with the
2022 Hyundai Tucson
. Here's a look at why you should consider the new Hyundai Tucson before you go and buy a 2022 Ford Escape.

Why did Consumer Reports not like the Ford Escape?

According to
Consumer Reports
, although the Escape is a popular SUV, it's actually a popular SUV that customers should avoid. The Escape has a mediocre overall score of 55 out of 100, and this is primarily due to its reliability and owner satisfaction ratings.
The Escape did well enough on its road test, as it got a 73 out of 100 there, but its reliability and owner satisfaction scores dragged it down. In terms of reliability, the Escape got a 2 out of 5, and in terms of its owner satisfaction rating, it got a 3 out of 5.
This isn't surprising because the Escape has a long history of reliability issues, and it's why it's generally considered to be a bad SUV. For example, the Escape's standard 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine has an annoying vibration when it's at low speeds. The materials in the cabin can also feel cheap, and as a result, the Escape is less comfortable than its peers.

The Hyundai Tucson scored much better than the Ford Escape did

In comparison, the Tucson seems to be a great SUV across the board. Not only that, but it's also cheaper than the Escape. The Tucson starts at about $25,000, while the Escape starts at $26,500.
The Tucson has a smooth ride, a quiet and comfortable cabin, and great ratings all around. It has plenty of standard features, and customers can get a lot of bang for their buck if they want to get a fully-loaded Tucson instead.
In terms of ratings, the Tucson beat the Escape in every category. The Tucson has an overall score of 89 out of 100. It received an 86 out of 100 for its road test, a 5 out of 5 for its predicted reliability, and a 5 out of 5 for its predicted owner satisfaction rating. As a result, the Tucson is a better SUV than the Escape while being cheaper, too.

If you can't decide, then you should test drive both SUVs

While it doesn't seem like much of a contest on paper, some customers may still be stuck between the two SUVs. The Escape does have some nice features, and Ford is making significant improvements to it every model year. For example, while the Escape has a history of being unreliable, the 2021 model year was a much better model year than before.
When it comes to things like fuel economy and standard smart safety features, both SUVs are in a dead heat. If you're truly stuck between the two, it's definitely a good idea to take them both out for a test drive.
