If you’re looking for a truck with massive amounts of torque and a high towing capacity, the 2022 Ram 3500 could be the
pickup truck
for you. Not only is the Ram 3500 extremely capable in the towing arena, but it's designed to accommodate more passengers.
Its unrivaled luxury interiors and refined ride make the Ram Heavy Duty a quality ride, but the powertrains are what give the truck its outstanding strength. The lineup comes with a selection of diesel and gas powertrains throughout the different trim levels, and we’re here to walk you through them, with some help from
MotorTrend
.

How do the powertrain options look?

The new 2022 Ram 3500 comes in three powertrain options: one gas engine, two diesel engines. The gas option is a 6.4-liter V8 that generates 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
For the diesel, a 6.7-liter Cummins V6 is one of the diesel options, which tends to be expensive but can be a great deal for those looking for additional power. The standard diesel comes with 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque, but, according to MotorTrend, there’s a “high-output” version that has a whopping 420 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque. Both options are matched with a six-speed automatic transmission, though, which MotorTrend deems a flaw.
Despite the Ram 3500 lagging in transmission, its unmatched towing capacity goes as high as 14,990 lbs, allowing it to remain a tough competitor.
Most off-roaders will love the Power Wagon package for its ability to go just about anywhere, thanks to its Bilstein shocks and 33-inch off-road tires. It might not be the fastest Dodge truck, but its size makes it ideal for most terrain.

According to
HotCars
, the 2022 Ram 3500 is here to maintain its top position as king of heavy-duty trucks, and your selection will give you the best truck for whatever your plans are.
While the focus of the 2022 Ram 3500 is certainly strength, Ram didn’t forget about comfort or technology. The cabin has many upscale features, including a 12-inch touchscreen for upper trim levels, a premium interior, and a roomier Mega cab option.
The Bighorn and the Limited models also offer you great value and abilities when considering options like cab styles, convenience, tech features, and engines. In addition, the Leaf Spring suspension makes the Ram 3500 easy when handling big trailers.

If your sole focus in buying a truck is a need for power, the high-output diesel option is likely your best bet. It has massive amounts of torque and a huge towing capacity, meaning it can take just about any haul you throw at it.
If just having a stronger car is more your speed, you might want to consider a standard gas engine and a trim with more tech or features. That being said, adding the Power Wagon package to a comfortable trim is great for anyone with an interest in going off-road with their 3500.
