If you’re a
Volvo
fan or are simply in the market for a Volvo, you’re likely to come across the Volvo T5 and T6 engines. At first glance, it may not seem like there’s much of a difference between the two. But once you start digging, it becomes clear that it’s worth becoming a bit more educated on Volvo’s two engines. So which one of them is right for you?
Whatever you drive, Volvo or not, it’s worth checking to make sure your
auto insurance policy
isn’t overpriced. No one deserves to overpay for the coverage they need.

The Volvo T5 engine

Volvo
explains that the T5 is offered in different powertrains. This is one of the primary differences between the Volvo T5 and T6—the T5 is found in both front- and all-wheel-drive powertrains.
The T5 is also turbocharged, which means that it has components that help force additional air and fuel into the engine to give the car improved performance on the road. The T5 engine provides 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, which, combined with either a front- or rear-wheel drive vehicle, offers an excellent driving experience.

The Volvo T6 engine

The Volvo T6 engine can be considered a step up from the T5, but it’s only found in all-wheel-drive models. One of the other differences between the Volvo T5 and T6 engines is that the T6 is twin-charged (as opposed to the T5 being turbocharged).
Twin-charged means that the T6 is both turbocharged and supercharged, which allows the engine to enjoy even better performance on the road. The T6 receives more fuel and air than the T5, allowing it to power the vehicle more efficiently.
The other difference between the Volvo T5 and T6 engines is that the T6 has more horsepower than the T5 does—316 hp compared to 250, and 295 lb-ft of torque.

The Volvo T5 and T6: which is best for you and your needs?

Now that you know the difference between the Volvo T5 and T6 engines, you might be wondering which suits your needs best. The T6 is ideal for people who want faster acceleration time, added power, and peak performance. However, the T5 is better for those who still want a responsive driving experience and are willing to compromise power for improved fuel economy.
The T5 and T6 engine options are offered in some of Volvo’s most popular models, including the S90, XC40, XC60,
XC90
, and several others. One thing to consider, though, is that the T6 engine will be available only on higher trim levels of many of these Volvo models.
