Lotus might not be the first company you think of, but a collector car dealer is selling two incredibly rare models.
One of them is the Lotus Etna (originally intended to succeed the famous
Esprit of James Bond fame
), and the other is the Lotus M200 Speedster, from the same design team as the iconic Lotus Elise. Both vehicles were concept cars, built for motor shows in the 80s and 90s. And neither made it into production, meaning they are truly one-of-a-kind! Read on to learn more.

The 1984 Lotus Etna

Jalopnik
explains the Lotus Etna concept car was unveiled at the 1984 British Motor Show. As you might guess from the design, it was supposed to follow the Lotus Esprit, but these plans were shelved following a slump in classic car sales.
Still, the concept Lotus Etna was an impressive vehicle, offering F1-inspired suspension, traction control, and anti-lock brakes. The 4.0-liter V8 engine was also imported from a race car and could crank out 335 horsepower and 295 lb-ft torque.
Originally, this car was built out of clay, wood, and fiberglass, but an amateur restorer got his hands on it in 2001 and used an Esprit chassis to turn it into a working car.
It boasts a genuine Type 909 engine (one of only two ever made by Lotus) and is available to buy for $140,000 from Metropole Classic Cars in the Netherlands.

The 1991 Lotus M200 Speedster

The second unique Lotus being sold is the M200 Speedster. Similar to the Etna, the Speedster was only built as a concept car and debuted at the 1991 Frankfurt Motor Show. The mechanics of this car were based on the Elan M100, with a 1.6-liter Isuzu turbo engine capable of putting out 162 horsepower and 148 lb-ft torque.
The head designer was Julian Thompson, who achieved great success with the Lotus Elise a few years later. And to his credit, the Speedster looks cool, with individual driver and passenger cockpit openings, a small airstream deflector in place of a windscreen, and an oversized rear wing.
The most surprising design choice is the floral pattern on the interior, which is said to have been inspired by swimsuits of the day. I can’t say I love the colors, but they certainly remind me of the 90s! Like the Etna, the M200 Speedster is also available for $140,000 from Metropole Classic Cars in the Netherlands.
