Tucson is one of the best cars of the year. Hyundai's SUV received great reviews for its impressive features, especially relative to its price. However, Consumer Reports left the Hyundai Tucson off of their list of the 10 best cars of the year.
According to
Consumer Reports
, the Hyundai Tucson was left off of the list because of certain criteria that they used to rank cars. This might have kept the Tucson off of the list, but that doesn't mean that it isn't an SUV worth considering.

Why wasn't the Hyundai Tucson on Consumer Reports' list?

Consumer Reports prides itself on its thoroughness and standards in reviewing, meaning that vehicles that they recommend have been rigorously tested. To make it onto the “10 Best Cars of the Year” list, a car first had to have a high Overall Score.
This is a 100-point scale system that Consumer Reports uses to measure cars based on their overall quality and safety.
However, to earn a spot on the list of best cars, a vehicle had to also exhibit two specific safety features on all trim levels. These two features were forward collision warning (FCW) and highway-speed automatic emergency braking (AEB).
No matter how critically-acclaimed the Hyundai Tucson is, it would not be eligible for this list because it lacks highway-speed AEB.
The Tucson is not the only car to be left off for something like this either. The BMW X5, another car that received strong reviews overall, also failed to make it on the list because it lacks automatic emergency braking.

Consumer Reports still thinks the Hyundai Tucson is a great car

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson might lack that one feature that disqualifies it from the Consumer Reports list, but that doesn't take away from its overall quality.
Consumer Reports
gave it an “Overall Score” of 89 out of 100.
This puts it as the second-best compact SUV on the market right now, according to Consumer Reports, behind only the Subaru Forester.
Comfort is certainly not the only thing that the Hyundai Tucson has going for it, but it is worth pointing out. All passengers in the Tucson have ample space, and the SUV's cargo space also receives impressive reviews.
Additionally, the Hyundai Tucson is a vehicle that Consumer Reports believes will serve owners well for years to come. It receives perfect scores in both owner satisfaction and predicted reliability.

One car that stands out on the Consumer Reports list is the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the first electric vehicle to sport the iconic Mustang name.
The Mach-E stands out for its impressive acceleration and competitive range of 270 miles per charge. Consumer Reports gave it bonus points in its scoring for its added safety features.
While not as flashy as the electric Mustang, another spot on the list went to the always-reliable Honda Accord.
At this point, there is almost nothing to say that hasn't already been said about Honda's famous sedan. The Accord does continue to stand out, though, for how it feels like a luxury car despite coming with a reasonable price.
